Chapter 54-1

Chance’s POV

For someone that says he isn’t interested in our mate, his scent was potent in the air, telling me he had been here recently. I was now wondering if this was where he had been spending his nights, since I hadn’t seen him since that day he shifted on the front lawn at the ranch, threatening to expose us all to Raven.

It now explained why his scent was on her phone, as I was sure he must be following her, but I now had to wonder what pictures on her phone he had deleted and why. Maybe it was out of jealousy, seeing her and that boy back in California together, and if so, he was lying not only

to us that he wasn’t interested in her, but also to himself.

I didn’t know if I should be worried or elated that he was hanging around here, but since it had been days, if he was going to expose himself to Raven, I was sure he would have done it by now, leading me to believe that he was secretly watching over her.

While I carried Raven to her house, I did a quick scan of the woods, while Raven nuzzled her head into my chest, falling right back to sleep in my arms. As I made my way up the steps, the porch light came on, before the door was opened by Raven’s grandmother.

With the look of worry and dread on her face, she asks, “Is she okay?”

“Raven is fine, Ms. Wilson. She just fell asleep on our way home from our date. If you don’t mind, I would like to tuck her in for the night.”

“Oh, thank the heavens.” Ms. Wilson said, as she brought her hand to her chest and stepped to the side, allowing me to step into the house with Raven in my arms, as she pointed to a small hallway, saying to me, “Her room is the first door on the left.”

“Thank you for allowing me this.” I said as I lowered my head to her out of respect, before I walked towards the small hallway leading to Raven’s room.

Opening her door, I exposed her tiny bedroom, with only a single bed in it, barely big enough for her petite body. I cringed at the thought of her having to live like this, when she was born to be my Luna, and deserved so much more. But I knew this was all that Ms. Wilson could provide for her, and for now it would have to suffice, but once Raven accepts us as her mate, I will make sure that all this changes for them both.

Laying Raven gently down on her bed, I pulled a blanket over her petite body, before I leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, to wish her goodnight. As I stood back up to my full height, I turned to leave but stopped when something caught my eye.

Moving to the small vanity, I bent down to look at the pictures that were taped to it, noticing my father in the pictures alongside a woman that I assumed was Raven’s mother. But it wasn’t their pictures staged alone that caught my eye, but a group photo taken on the football field at the school at night, obviously after a game, as everyone in the photo was

dressed in their uniforms.

Plucking the picture from the mirror, I took a closer look at the photo, making sure I wasn’t mistaking what I was seeing, as the picture was a good twenty-plus years old. Under the bleachers that they all sat on, there were definitely two glowing red eyes staring back at me, making me question whether this was ironic or if this wasn’t the first time that my father had a rogue Alpha on his hands.

“Is everything okay?” Ms. Wilson asks, startling me from the doorway, as I quickly hide the picture behind my back, slipping it into my back pocket, as I turn to look at her.

“Everything is fine. I just was looking at the old pictures of our parents on the vanity.” I nervously said to her as I moved to the doorway, hoping that she didn’t see me snatch the

one.
