CHAPTER 191
It had been a month since the chaos with Lydia, since the forest had trembled under the weight of her magic and the guardians had finally been freed. The Moonflare pack had slowly begun to settle back into routine, though the memory of the attack lingered in quiet moments, a shadow that refused to fully disappear. The twins were regaining their bearings, the pack’s morale was slowly returning, and for the first time since Lydia’s defeat, Asher and I had a chance to breathe.
The morning was crisp when we set out for the werewolf council. The roads were empty, the town quiet as we drove. Asher’s hand rested lightly on my thigh, his touch grounding, and the bond between us hummed steadily beneath the surface. could feel his tension. The lingering worry from Lydia’s attack, but there was also pride there. He’d been relentless in the forest, unwavering, and I knew he carried the weight of the pack’s safety with him like a shield.
“I still can’t believe the council knew about her.” Asher said quietly as we drove. “They were already hunting her. And we got there first.”
I leaned back in my seat, eyes on the road but my mind replaying that night. “Yeah. I guess we got lucky. Or maybe we were supposed to. Either way… she’s gone. Permanently.”
He exhaled slowly, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly. “Permanently. That word still
doesn’t feel real.”
“I know.” I said, reaching over to squeeze his hand. “But it’s true. And now we have to make sure the pack stays safe.”
The council chamber was familiar, sterile in a way that clashed with the chaotic energy of our pack. We walked in together, shoulders squared, presenting ourselves as strong, united, and unshaken. The werewolves there, several alphas, betas, and council members, listened as we gave
a full report.
“We encountered Lydia Keene.” I explained, voice steady. “She had a powerful hold over the Redwater Falls guardians and was attempting to extend that control into Moonflare. She had been manipulating several members of my pack, including the twins, Gage and Arlo. She was clever, patient, and dangerous, but we intercepted her before she could escalate further. She is no longer a threat.”
The council members murmured among themselves. One of them, a tall alpha from the Northern Ridge pack, nodded. “We’ve been aware of her activities. She was indeed dangerous. Your actions prevented a larger disaster. Well done.”
Another council member, a sharp–eyed woman with silver hair, leaned forward. “You acted decisively. But tell us, were there any lasting effects on your pack? Mental, physical, magical?”
I glanced at Asher, letting him speak first. “The twins were under some manipulation, but it was

limited. The guardians were freed. The pack is stabilizing. There’s residual trauma, but nothing
permanent.”
I added, “The important thing is that the threat has been neutralized. We acted quickly, and the pack is safe,”
There were a few nods of approval, a few questions about specifics of the guardians‘ powers and Lydia’s magic, but overall, the council’s response was measured and professional. We weren’t in trouble. They already knew she was a problem. But we were expected to provide details. We did,
and we did it well.
After the meeting, Asher and I left the council building together, the night air cool against our skin. The drive back to Moonflare was quieter, reflective.
“Feels strange to be back after all that.” Asher murmured, eyes scanning the darkened roads. “Like nothing’s changed… but everything’s changed.”
I nodded. “Yeah. People’s trust… even us. We’ve grown stronger, but we’ve also been through a lot.” When we finally returned to Moonflare, the tension that had accompanied our departure was immediately apparent. The twins weren’t where we expected them. The common areas were mostly empty, save for a few lingering pack members quietly exchanging news and updates. We made our way up the hall toward the bedrooms, and that’s when we saw them. Both twins emerged from their different rooms, each accompanied by a different girl who had obviously spent the night. They were laughing, talking quietly, brushing hair back from their faces, their hands resting lightly on their companions‘ shoulders.
I stopped in the hallway, eyebrows raised, and Asher glanced at me with a mixture of surprise and
amusement.
“They’ve been… doing this a lot lately.” I said, voice low, as we both watched the scene unfold.” Sleeping around. Trying to… cope, I guess.”
Asher’s jaw tightened slightly. “They’re different. It’s not like them.”
“No.” I agreed, voice soft. “But maybe that’s how they’re healing. If it helps them move past what Lydia did… then I won’t interfere. They’re adults. They can make their own choices.”
The twins didn’t notice us yet, and we let them move on, retreating down the hall toward the kitchen. Their laughter echoed faintly, oddly carefree, but underneath it was something brittle, something I knew wouldn’t last if we didn’t help them rebuild trust and stability.
I leaned against the wall, letting out a long exhale. “Moonflare’s finally quiet again.” I said, half to myself. “But it’s… different. Everything’s different.”
Asher’s hand found mine again, squeezing gently. “It’s the aftermath. Everyone’s recovering in their

own way. We just… have to keep moving forward, together.”
I smiled faintly, pressing my forehead to his shoulder for a moment. “Together.” I echoed.

After a moment, I pulled back slightly, heart hammering with something entirely different. A secret I’d carried with me, one I hadn’t shared yet. My hand rested over my stomach almost instinctively, warmth radiating beneath my fingers. The bond between us throbbed softly in response, a subtle pulse of life and connection.
“Asher…” My voice was quiet, hesitant, but I could feel the words needing to escape.
He turned to me fully, eyes searching mine. “What is it?”
I swallowed, feeling a mix of excitement, fear, and relief. “I… I’m pregnant.”
The words hung in the air, heavy and charged. For a moment, Asher didn’t move. His eyes widened, shock washing over his face, then slowly, realization, awe, and joy blended together.
“Pregnant?” He repeated, voice hushed, trembling slightly. “You’re… ours. You’re carrying… our
baby?”
I nodded, a small, nervous smile tugging at my lips. Yes. And I… I didn’t want to tell you until I was sure. But now… I can’t hold it in anymore.”
Asher’s hands came to my face, cupping it gently. “Trinity… this… this is incredible.” His voice cracked slightly, the weight of emotion tangible. “We’ve been through hell and back… and now this … this is life. Our life. Our family.”
Tears pricked the corners of my eyes as I nodded, unable to speak for a moment. The magnitude of what we’d survived. The battles, the manipulation, the constant tension, faded into a distant echo, replaced by something far more real, far more immediate. A new life, ours, growing inside
He pressed his forehead to mine, inhaling sharply, letting the bond between us hum and pulse in recognition of the news. “We’ve got this.” He whispered. “Whatever happens, whatever challenges come… we’ll face them. Always.”
I let out a shaky laugh, relief and joy bubbling up. “Always.” I echoed, squeezing his hands.
In the background, I could sense the twins returning from the kitchen, the quiet shuffle of footsteps nearing. Their energy felt different, shifted, but I didn’t have time to dwell on it. Not now. Not when this moment, this tiny, fragile miracle, was ours.
I glanced at Asher, feeling the steady strength of him next to me. He caught my gaze, gave me that small, reassuring smile, and I felt my chest swell with love and determination.
Yes, Moonflare had changed. Yes, the aftermath of Lydia’s control still rippled through the pack. But for the first time since the attack, I felt a surge of hope, of purpose, of something undeniably
