Moonlight In Chains (Trinity and Asher) novel Chapter 27

CHAPTER 27

As soon as I went back inside the house I picked up a sledge hammer and I started breaking apart the kitchen table and chairs so they were easier to get outside and I did the same with the living room furniture.

Asher came into the house and saw what I was doing but he stood back until I was finished.

This wasn’t just therapeutic for me, but it was something that I needed to do. I needed to let my damn anger out finally. I couldn’t keep my hatred for my family built up inside of me. I had to get it out and Asher stood back until I finished.

Why the hell would you want to move back into this house?Asher asked.

Because I can’t stay in the packhouse and I don’t have anywhere else to go.I said.

You can stay in the packhouse. They aren’t going to kick you out.” He said.

Are they kicking you out?I asked.

No. Of course not.He said.

Why the f**k would they want us under the same roof? Gage looks at you the same way every time he sees you. He’s never looked at me like he did today. He hates me and you refused to tell

them the f*****g truth.” I yelled.

I’m sorry that Gage looked at you like that. He shouldn’t have done that.” Asher said.

I’m sick and tired of pretending. I’m sick of tip toeing around because of Gage. He is my

best

friend and I never want to lose him from my life. But he has to understand that this is the way it is

and there’s nothing any of us can do about it. Just tell your family the f*****g truth.I yelled.

Truth about what?Gage asked, walking up the hallway behind Asher.

Asher turned to look at him before he looked back at me.

Nothing. It’s not important.Asher said.

I just shook my head and I grabbed the sledge hammer and I walked down to the basement door and headed downstairs.

Asher and Gage both followed me, obviously curious about what I was doing.

As soon as they walked into the basement, they stopped walking but I walked over to the wall where the chains were bolted into the wall. The same chains that had clasps on them for my

hands.

The guys had never seen the basement of our house before. They didn’t know the severity of the abuse. They knew I was being abused, but seeing the chains in the wall gave them a better picture of the last four years of my life.

I started hitting the wall with the sledge hammer where the chains were and I didn’t stop until they came loose.

I picked them up and dragged them upstairs and I took them out the back and threw them in the fire as well.

Alpha Dennis was still standing there with a few of his warriors, but he looked at me strangely when he saw the chains.

I walked back inside and went back down to the basement where I grabbed the wrack on the wall where the torture tools where kept and I pulled them off the wall and took them upstairs and threw

them in the fire as well.

I stood there staring at them. The metal wasn’t melting because the fire wasn’t hot enough, but the

plastic handles on them were.

That’s when Alpha Dennis stepped back with Asher and Gage.

The three of them were looking at me with concern, but I didn’t look at them. I couldn’t. Not after they had seen the tools and the chains.

That was something that I never wanted them to know about, but right now, I didn’t care if they knew. I needed to get them out of the house.

I went back inside the house and I kept working on getting rid of anything that was a reminder of my parents or brother and I kept adding to the fire.

The warriors just stayed there to make sure the fire didn’t get out of control, but the Alpha didn’t stop me from doing what I was doing.

It didn’t take him long to realize what I was doing.

I don’t think anyone knew what was really going through my head, and honestly, neither did I. I just needed to get rid of anything that reminded me of my family.

When I was finished I went back inside and I closed the door.

I saw the house was completely empty. There was nothing in any room except my bedroom. So I slid down the wall in the living room and I looked around at the empty house. As if no one ever

lived here.

And that’s exactly the way I wanted it.

I had been sitting in the house for a couple of hours when someone opened the front door and Arlo was standing there.

Wow. I thought dad was exaggerating.” Arlo said, looking around the house.

Brand new house. Once I paint it.I said.

You’re going to paint it?He asked.

I hate these colors. Mom loved bright colors and every room is painted bright except for my room. So, yeah. I’m repainting. And then it will be a different house and it will be my house.” I said.

I heard you were also looking for another job.He said.

Well, they don’t want me working at the high school anymore. I need money to eat.I said.

Come back to the packhouse. He said.

No. I can’t.I said.

Why not? I know about you and Asher. You two were getting it on this afternoon and Gage caught you. It’s none of Gage’s business. He’s not your boyfriend.Arlo said.

I know that Gage had feelings towards me. You should have seen the look on his face. He has never looked at me like that. I never thought he ever would. He hates me.I said.

It’s none of his business who you choose.Arlo said.

I didn’t choose Asher.I said.

What are you talking about? He asked, confused.

It doesn’t matter.I said, looking away.

Except it obviously does matter. What’s going on?He asked putting my school bag down on the

floor.

You can’t tell anyone. Not Gage or your dad or anyone. Apparently no one is allowed to know.I

said.

What is it?He asked, sitting next to me on the floor.

Asher’s my mate. But he doesn’t want to tell because he realized that Gage was in love with me. I didn’t accept the mate bond straight away when I turned 18. That’s why he left for a couple of months. And since he’s been back, I’ve been pushing him away. It’s getting harder and harder. I know that it’s all my fault. If I hadn’t pushed Asher away when I realized he was my mate then none of this would have happened.” I said.

“Why did you push him away?Arlo asked.

I thought he could do better than me. I’d already suffered through four years of my parents beating the s**t out of me and telling me that I was worthless. I didn’t believe that I was worthy of the heir to the pack. I didn’t believe that I was worth being the next Luna.I explained.

Holy s**t. This explains so much.He said.

I f****d everything up. From the very start I just did everything so wrong.I said.

No. You didn’t. I know you. You’ve always done what you think is best for other people. When you didn’t accept Asher when you turned 18, I know that you did that because you thought it was best

for him.Arlo said.

Well, it doesn’t mean s**t now. I’ve f****d up. Asher is in deep s**t with your father and he won’t tell him the truth, Gage hates me and I’m sitting in a house that I told myself I would never come back to. But it looks like it’s all mine now.I said.

Do you think you can live here without losing your mind?He asked.

Yeah. Pretty sure I can. Once it’s painted, I get a job and buy new furniture. And I fill the basement

with cement.I said.

You want to fill in the basement with cement? He asked.

Yep.I said.

Okay then. Well, that sounds like a plan then.He said.

I guess so.” I said. So Arlo stood up but he turned around to look at me.

Trinity. You didn’t do anything wrong. You and Asher were trying to be respectful of Gage. But you

two are mates. The mate bond and the pull wouldn’t have let you two stay away from each other

for too long. Especially not while you were living in the same house. It’s not your fault and Gage is going to have to get used to it. Asher will tell the truth eventually and then Gage will know that

there’s nothing he can do about it.” Arlo said.

And what’s gonna happen to Asher in the meantime? Your father already treats him like shit.I

said.

Asher can take care of himself. Don’t hate yourself for giving in to the mate bond. It was going to

happen no matter what.Arlo said.

Thanks.I said.

If you need me, I’m just a call away. Forget about my brothers. I’m not in love with you or have a mate bond with you. I am your friend. Your best friend. You can call me if you need anything. He

said.

I appreciate that.I said. So he turned around and walked out of the house.
