Chapter 10

By the time I finished my makeup and went downstairs, Oliver was already sitting across from my mom.

They were chatting happily, and the smile on my mom’s face never faded.

She was obviously very satisfied with this marriage prospect of mine.

I coughed lightly, interrupting their conversation.

My mom hurriedly called me over, pointing to the mountain of gift boxes next to the coffee table and introducing:

“Look, these are all the gifts Oliver brought for us and you.”

I was stunned for a moment.

Judging from the brands on the boxes.

Luxury bags and jewelry, skincare products, luxury herbal supplements.

And whole cartons of cigarettes, liquor, and tea.

If you didn’t know better, you’d think he was here to finalize the engagement today.

Subconsciously, my mind uncontrollably drifted back.

I had begged Alexander so many times, wanting him to come home with me to meet my parents and make our relationship public.

He always refused.

He only sent gifts to my parents during the holidays as my brother’s friend.

I even comforted myself, thinking he just wasn’t ready for the change in our relationship.

I foolishly looked forward to the day he would accept it.

But now, none of that is possible.

I pulled my thoughts back and clicked my tongue at Oliver:

“Did you empty out the entire mall?”

My mom patted me with a smile: “Nonsense again.”

Oliver smiled:

“I was still worried this wouldn’t show enough sincerity to invite Ms. Bennett out.”

My mom smiled and urged us out the door:

“Fernando hasn’t had a good look around since coming back, so I’ll leave her to you today.”

Oliver politely agreed, showing his excellent upbringing.

After getting into the car, we were enclosed in the small, confined space.

I felt a bit awkward and tried to make small talk.

Fortunately, Oliver caught every thread and naturally brought up new topics.

My initially restless heart gradually calmed down.

Suddenly, my eyes were drawn to his car charm.

It was a sticker of Hercules, made into an acrylic car charm.

The sticker clearly showed signs of age, but it had been preserved very

well.

I covered my mouth: “Could this be…”

Oliver turned to look at me, his eyes smiling:

“Yes, it’s the one you gave me when we were kids.”
