Chapter 13

Chapter 13

The engagement banquet ended.

After seeing off all the guests and family, Oliver and I leaned against each other, chatting about funny past events and our plans for the future.

As the night deepened, Oliver hugged me reluctantly:

“Let’s get married soon, so we don’t have to separate when I take you

home.”

I looked at his wet, puppy-dog eyes.

I patted his head and whispered in his ear: “Soon.”

Oliver drove me home.

A fine rain was falling from the sky.

The surrounding plants shimmered faintly in the night.

While waiting at a red light, my phone rang. It was my brother,

I smiled and urged Oliver: “Drive faster, my brother is rushing me home.”

Oliver: “Yes, Ms. Bennett.”

I answered: “I’ll be home soon, don’t worry.”

Jonathan: “Fernando, did Alexander call you?”

Hearing Alexander’s name twice in one day gave me a bad feeling.

I replied: “No.”

Just as I was about to say not to mention this person again.

My brother said, puzzled:

“Strange, he just drove here from Southern Coastal City. When he heard you weren’t here, he asked for the address of the engagement banquet and hurriedly drove off again.”

“He didn’t look well, and he was driving fast. I’m a bit worried.”

He joked:

“Calling him brother all these years wasn’t for nothing. He’s actually in such a rush to congratulate you on your engagement in person.”

I thought to myself, this is bad.

The chances of him coming to give his blessing were slim.

Going crazy was much more likely.

After all, someone as egocentric as him, being dumped by me without a word.

His pride definitely couldn’t take it.

But I had no obligation to care about his feelings.

“Oliver, drive carefully…’

Before I could finish.

A black Maybach burst through the rainy night.

It was driving so fast, splashing up layers of water.
