Adriana had gotten out of the car and stood somewhat lost in place. The atmosphere was suffocating.

Belinda’s eyes reddened, and she looked ready to rush forward, but Cynthia was determined to walk toward them step by step. Belinda had no choice but to stand and wait with Curtis.

Adriana looked at Curtis and Belinda, then at Cynthia. They really look like a happy family.

A mere threemeter distance took Cynthia several minutes to cover.

She walked slowly, her smile radiant and infectious.

Even the nurse beside her couldn’t hold back tears. Mr. Lincoln, your wife has worked incredibly hard these past months. She’s put in so much effort to recover to this extent.”

The nurse had always believed Cynthia was Curtis’s wife. After all, whenever she referred to Curtis as her husband, Cynthia never corrected her.

Adriana’s heart sank. It was impossible not to feel hurt.

It was deeply uncomfortable.

My apologies, there’s been a misunderstanding. This is my wife.Having heard the nurse’s comment, Curtis clarified that Adriana was his wife.

Adriana’s mind was blank. She was standing farther away, and with her left ear’s impaired hearing, she didn’t catch what Curtis said clearly.

She just lowered her head, wishing she could disappear into the ground. She felt superfluous, an eyesore amidst the three of them.

Cynthia’s expression darkened slightly, her smile fading as she looked toward Adriana.

Adriana stood her ground silently. Only when Cynthia drew nearer did she manage a strained smile. Ms. Reese we meet again.

Cynthia nodded gently and moved to get into the passenger seat.

She seemed to naturally assume that if Curtis was driving, the front seat should be hers.

Considering her leg wasn’t well, Adriana didn’t overthink it. She quickly opened the car door and moved to help her in.

Belinda has missed you. Why don’t you sit in the back with her? You two haven’t seen each other in so long. You should catch up and reconnect,” Curtis said, opening the rear door instead and helping Cynthia into the back seat.

Cynthia hesitated; the serene expression on her face slipped slightly.

Adriana stood awkwardly until Curtis told her to get in, at which point she numbly took the passenger seat.

Maybe Curtis just wanted to create an opportunity for Belinda and Cynthia to talk.

But there seemed to be some transparent barrier between the mother and daughter. Throughout the drive, Belinda didn’t say a word to Cynthia, and Cynthia didn’t speak to Belinda either.

Adriana stole a glance in the rearview mirror. Both of them sat together like strangers who hadn’t seen each other for years, neither breaking the silence.

Adriana knew Belinda loved her mother. She had missed her so much, so why didn’t she hug her or shower her with affection now that they were reunited?

Cynthia also seemed quite aloof, which puzzled Adriana.

Ms. Reese, any dietary restrictions I should know about? I’ll let Eva know so she can adjust tonight’s meal,” Adriana offered, breaking the awkward silence.

I’m fine with anything,Cynthia replied with a smile.

Just as Adriana was about to call Eva, Curtis spoke up. Let’s eat out. No need to trouble with going back.

Adriana glanced at him. They’renot staying at the house?

They’ll stay at a hotel for now. Tomorrow, I’ll have someone tidy up Belinda’s apartment. It’ll be more convenient for the two of them.” Curtis’s plan was for Belinda and Cynthia to live together.

But Cynthia interrupted him. Curtis I’m used to Eva’s care. I might not adjust well to someone else. Let’s just stay at your villa. No need for extra trouble.

She was determined to stay with Curtis, probably sensing a threat.

Adrianna is pregnant and needs careful attention to her diet and routine. I’m concerned Eva would be overstretched caring for both of you. I’ll have Eva recommend a reliable nanny specifically for you. How does that sound?Curtis countered.
