Chapter 151 The Joke
Nicole could only ron back in a panic and boy Curts for help
Adriana held one arissam and gave Nicule an innocent look.
Curtis ignored her.
Curtis, say something for Nicole! She’s the one who was supposed to be engaged to you… Natasha said anxiously
“Ms Jones, didn’t you say at the door that you two were best friends? Curtis said calmly. “Then you should help her. I’m married now. Any old engagement is automatically invalid.
Natasha’s face went stiff. She clenched her hands. She didn’t dare anger Wendy right now. After all, being the daughter of the president of the local Chamber of Commerce still meant something in Haldoria’s business world.
“Natasha…” Nicole was so desperate that she was close to crying.
Natasha had no choice. She lowered her voice and said, “Nicole … just go home.”
Nicole’s face went pale. When she realized no one was willing to help her, she shot Adriana a vicious glare. “You just wait.”
Then she turned and walked off.
Wendy’s smile came back, and she started chatting with Curtis and the others.
Irene lifted the corner of her mouth and walked over to Adriana. She handed her an unopened bottle of water. “Drink this. You’re pregnant, so try not to touch anything that’s been exposed to the air.”
Adriana felt Irene’s kindness and smiled. Thank you”
“You timed that on purpose, didn’t you? You wanted to trigger Nicole so she’d say something stupid.” Irene asked with a lazy smile as she leaned against the railing.
Adriana’s chest tightened, but she didn’t answer.
Irene only smiled brighter. Her eyes were warm. Relax. I’m not here to defend Nicole. She might not even be the real Nicole.”
Truthfully, Irene was pleased. When she first learned Adriana was her niece, she’d worried Adriana was too soft–someone anyone could push around..
But now she saw Adriana wasn’t the type to get bullied without fighting back.
She could fight back hard.
Adr
That meant Adriana was smart.
And when she returned to the Barton Estate one day, she wouldn’t let Chandler or Danielle walk all over

really solo think she’d say all that Adriana said with a small, careful smile.
She sniff wasn’t sure if Irene’s kindness was real. After everything she’d lived through she’d stopped trusting people so easily
And now that she was Curtis’s wife, she needed to be careful with every word she said.
Irene nodded with a smile, her eyes still fixed on Adriana.
Adriana fel strangely nervous under that gaze. She didn’t even know why.
It wasn’t that she disliked Irene. She actually liked her personality and even admired her.
But Irene was still Nicole’s aunt.
And Irene was right–Adriana had waited until she saw Wendy coming downstairs Nicole on purpose. She knew people like Nicole and Natasha always attacked weaknesses.
the provoked
Adriana didn’t have many weaknesses. The only things people could use against her were her past as orphan and the four years she spent with Matthew.
Matthew was standing right there. Nicole wasn’t stupid enough to mention him. So she went after the “orphan” part.
And the one thing Wendy hated most… was people who looked down on orphans.
Curtis had told Adriana that on their way here.
“If you’re tired, go sit for a bit, Curtis said as he finished speaking with Wendy. He walked over and gently squeezed Adriana’s fingers.
He was pleased with how she stood up for him today.
He thought Adriana was smart. And she knew how to strike back,
Adriana shook her head and stayed beside him.
“You did great today. What reward do you want?” Curtis teased, trying to make her smile.
Adriana looked up at him after thinking for a moment. “Can I ask for anything?”
