Chapter 155 Nothing Special
Adriana almost laughed from anger. “You’re overthinking it. Mia broke the law. She hurt people. She deserves the legal punishment.”
Finished
Elise’s face darkened. She pulled a check from her purse. “Fill it in yourself. How much do you want? What will it take for you to leave my daughter alone?”
Adriana looked at the check and let out a soft laugh. “Mrs. Langford, I know your family is rich. But do you really think you can compete with Curtis? What amount do you think you can offer that he can’t give me?”
Elise’s expression turned ice–cold. “Adriana, how long do you think your marriage to Curtis will last?”
Adriana looked at her innocently. “How long we stay married is between me and Curtis. I don’t remember asking an outsider to weigh in.
Felicia scoffed. “Wow. The moment someone like you gets a little power, you think you’re invincible. Adriana, don’t push your luck. When we hand you a check, you should just write down a number and walk away.”
Adriana covered her mouth and lightly laughed. She picked up the check, glanced at it, and wrote a long string of nines,
If the Jones family really wanted to hand her 900 million dollars, she wouldn’t mind signing a statement to forgive Rufus and Mia.
Felicia’s face twisted. She slammed her hand on the table. “Adriana, stop being ridiculous!”
Adriana sighed like she was the one being troubled. “See? I wrote a number, and now you’re upset. If you can’t be generous, then don’t act like you are. You say you’d pay me to leave, but not even 900 million dollars for your own son? That’s a little sad.”
Felicia raised her hand, ready to slap her. Adriana tilted her face forward on purpose. “My baby is Curtis’s,” Adriana said softly. And Curtis knows I’m here today. Even if you can mess with the restaurant cameras, he’ll still find out. It’s fine if you hit me. But if the baby he wants gets hurt….
“You know Curtis only wants you because you can give him a child!” Felicia hissed, but her hand froze mid- air. She didn’t dare bring it down.
People like them only bullied the ones they weren’t afraid of.
But Curtis was someone they definitely feared.
Natasha looked upset. “Adriana, making enemies of us won’t help you. Even if Rufus gets sentenced, with reductions, he’ll be out in a few years. But you? Why make enemies of the Langfords and the Joneses?”
Cheryl chimed in, “Yeah, Adriana. Sure, you’re doing well now. But Curtis doesn’t love you. How long can he protect you?”
Adriana didn’t even bother responding to that. “If you had the time and energy to beg me to drop the case, why didn’t you spend it teaching your kids to be decent people? Bullies who target the weak and people without family backing–do you really think that’s okay?”

Chapter 155 Nothing Special
“Don’t be ungrateful, Cheryl snapped, stepping forward, but Natasha stopped her.
Adriana sat calmly, saying nothing. The calmer she looked, the angrier they became.
Elise finally lost her patience. She had never seen Adriana so stubborn. “Does Matthew really have to come beg you?”
Adriana looked at her. “You misunderstand. No matter who comes, the result is the same. Matthew means nothing to me.”
Elise didn’t believe her and gave a cold laugh. “Stop pretending.”
Then she pulled out her phone and called Matthew. “Come to Harmony Tavern. Yes, Veranda Suite. Adriana is here. Come beg her to let Mia go.” She spoke like she was giving orders.
She felt horrible knowing Mia was still in a holding facility. That’s why she forced Matthew to come.
Adriana looked at these so–called high–society people and felt they were all pathetic. Her eyes drifted to Natasha, who sat there quietly even though she looked angry. Adriana suddenly felt embarrassed that she used to envy her. What was there to envy? She didn’t even live like a person with a spine.
“Mrs. Langford,” Adriana said, “are you saying that whatever I ask Matthew to do, he’ll do it for Mia?”
Natasha clenched her hands. “Adriana, I can’t wait to see how you end up.”
