Irene couldn’t reveal Adriana’s real identity yet, but she could still help her as much as possible.
“Are you pregnant yet?” Gary asked. He pulled Irene onto the couch and touched her stomach.
“You think this works every single time?” Irene shot him a look. “You’re a grown man. Stop being childish”
Gary looked wronged. “You’re calling me old now… but a few years ago you said I was too young, too immature, and too unstable.”
Irene ignored him.
“By the way, I have real news, Gary said quickly. “That crazy man Joe arrested–the one who tried to poison an orphan in the hospital–the orphan was Adriana. We might have found the killer who murdered your sister and brother–in–law.”
Irene jerked upright and grabbed Gary by the collar. “This is huge! Why are you only telling me now?”
“But he was diagnosed with severe schizophrenia. He’s already been sent to a psychiatric hospital. Seeing him or getting him to talk will be hard. And legally, people with mental illness don’t have criminal responsibility…” Gary worried Irene would lose control.
But she was surprisingly calm.
She let go of his collar and sat down to think. “We found Adriana. At least I kept my promise to my sister. And we don’t know for sure whether he’s really mentally ill. Even if he is, we’ll still find a way to make him reveal everything
Gary stared at her. Irene really had gotten more rational.
All these years, Irene had been obsessed–almost unstable–trying to find the real Nicole.
Now that she had found Adriana, seen she was safe, and knew she was living a good life, Irene finally felt more at peace,
“With Adriana next to Curtis, he should be able to protect her, Irene said, though she was still uneasy. “You don’t think Curtis would bully her, right? Is she okay being pregnant? What if Curtis forced her? What if
Gary sighed. Irene was overthinking again.
“No. I can’t let Curtis just marry Adriana so easily,” Irene said, starting to panic again. “He got way too lucky. How does he get to casually marry a college girl–my niece!
Gary cleared his throat. True. Should we break them up. maybe force a divorce?”
Irene glared at him. “You’re awful.
Gary fell silent.
Meanwhile, in Harborton…

Danielle already knew about Nicole embarrassing herself at the Spencers‘ party. She yelled at her on the phone. I can’t leave Harborton right now. That idiot Nicole….
She slammed her phone down and looked at Chandler. “Dad, she’s going to get exposed sooner or later. We need to push Grandpa to finalize the will and hold a family meeting”
Chandler nodded.
If everything was confirmed early, then Jeremy wouldn’t matter anymore.
And once Jeremy was dead, they wouldn’t have to worry about him again.
“We still haven’t found the guy who killed Nicole’s parents? He knows too much about us. He’s a ticking bomb and needs to be erased, Danielle said. This was her biggest fear–the loose ends from years ago.
She had wanted no loose ends at all, but the killer was too smart and escaped before she could silence him.
“That man is very clever. If he can hide from us, he can hide from the Waltons, too. So don’t stress,” Chandler said calmly, sipping tea. “Focus on your grandpa first. Once we deal with him and get everything from the Bartons, we won’t have anything to fear.”
Then everything would be settled.
As for the real Nicole and her parents‘ deaths, no one would care anymore. There would only be Irene left in the Waltons.
And Irene was just a powerless woman.
‘T’ll go see Grandpa now,” Danielle said and left.
