Ms. Escape Marrying to Run Fighting to Rise novel Chapter 17

Adriana made the right call turning down the engagement and choosing to go overseas instead. Her talent in architecture was too obvious to ignore.

Curtis pulled off his tie and sank onto the couch. “Check which university Adriana’s applying to, and get me her advisor’s details.”

His assistant gave a small nod, then paused before speaking. “Mr. Lincoln, are you planning to step in for her? The woman who took her placement is related to the Joneses. Matthew’s backing her.”

Curtis’s expression tightened, a dark look crossing his face.

So, Matthew gave away Adriana’s placement for Natasha.

“Got it. Just do what I said,” Curtis replied, clearly not caring who he was crossing–not even if it was Matthew.

In her motel room, Adriana sat up in bed, scrolling through the trending page.

Her whole class had turned on her. They were praising Cheryl like she was a saint–saying she was way better, smarter, and had a better attitude. Some even posted a photo of Adriana getting into Matthew’s car, accusing her of sleeping around for favors.

Adriana bit down on her fingers until it hurt, then tossed the phone aside. She shook as she wrapped her arms around herself.

So, this is Matthew’s first move.

He’s using the internet to destroy me.

The things people said online were like sharp blades. You couldn’t see the wounds, but they cut deep.

He knew she wasn’t in the best shape, and he still went this far. That said enough about how badly he wanted her out of the way for Natasha’s sake.

Right then, her phone buzzed. It was Lydia from the orphanage.

“Lydia … ” Adriana picked up, her heart racing. A call this late couldn’t be good.

“Adriana, some inspectors came today,” Lydia said, clearly upset. “They said our fire systems aren’t up to code and the building’s too old. We either need to move or rebuild. But we can barely afford the kids‘ meds and food. We don’t have the money for something like that.” Her voice cracked. “They said they know you. They told me to call you and said you’d understand.”

different places. A lot of them had disabilities or

If the orphanage shut down, the kids would be sent off trouble fitting in. They’d probably get picked on in a new place.

Adriana’s hands curled into fists. Her eyes burned.

Matthew… He doesn’t care what he destroys.

He knows all my soft spots and is targeting every single one.

“Don’t worry, Lydia. I’ll take care of it,” Adriana said, her voice rough.

Once she calmed Lydia down and hung up, she immediately dialed Matthew.

If he has a problem with me, fine. But why drag the orphanage into it?

Of course, it was him.
