Joe nodded. He didn’t know much about the Lincolns‘ internal situation, but he could more or less imagine
“Alright. Wait for my update.” Joe slipped the sample bag into his backpack.
Adriana nodded as well, and just as she and Joe stepped out of the café, they happened to run into Denton.
Denton wasn’t with Michael or his mom today. It looked like he had come alone… to work part–time at the café.
As Adriana walked out, they came face–to–face.
Denton froze for a moment, then lowered his head awkwardly, pretending not to know her.
“Denton, did you remember everything I told you yesterday?” the café owner called him over.
Adriana was a little surprised. He already knew he was born into the wealthiest family in Harborton–so why was he still here working a regular job?
But she didn’t ask. She simply left with Joe.
“Do you know that kid?” Joe asked casually.
“Mm…” Adriana didn’t elaborate. She only turned back for another glance.
Denton had already put on his apron and was standing behind the counter, earnestly making coffee.
At eight that evening, Curtis video–called Adriana.
“Did you rest well today?” Curtis leaned back against the sofa, looking slightly exhausted.
“Mm. What about you?” Adriana lay on her stomach, propping up her chin, a faint sting tickling her nose.
She never thought of herself as clingy, but it had only been a few days apart, and she already missed him a little–and when she went abroad to Pastalia someday, she wouldn’t be able to see him for months.
“Just got back to the hotel. The project here ran into a minor issue, but it’s resolved now.” Curtis smiled faintly. “Tomorrow, I’ll make a trip back to Harborton. Next Tuesday, I’ll come home to you.”
The plan had changed again–Curtis still wouldn’t be able to come back to Haldoria immediately.
Adriana felt a little disappointed, though she didn’t dare show it. “Home … Did something happen?”
She was worried about him.
It’s nothing. Michael and his wife returned to Harborton. Grandpa wants me back for a day,” Curtis explained.
Do you need me to go with you?” Adriana sat up nervously.

Even if Belinda said she was too soft, Adriana still couldn’t stand the thought of Curtis being wronged.
Family conflicts could get messy–and Curtis wasn’t the kind of man who enjoyed dealing with them. But Adriana thought … if there was something Curtis couldn’t say, maybe she could say it for him.
As long as Curtis was there, she wasn’t afraid of anything.
“Are you afraid I’ll be bullied?” Curtis laughed.
Looking at Adriana, the tiredness on his face seemed to vanish completely.
“Mm… ” Adriana hummed quietly. She really was afraid he’d be wronged. With how Michael had avoided the Lincolns for over a decade, and his wife acting more like a street thug than a society woman … “I saw Denton earlier. He was working at a café. He didn’t go back to Harborton with them.”
“Who knows if that father and son aren’t just putting on a pity show?” Curtis massaged his brow.
He didn’t understand Denton, and he had no intention of trying.
He had neither a father nor a brother. That was how he saw it.
“I want to go with you,” Adriana whispered.
“Okay. When I finish here, I’ll go back to Haldoria and pick you up,” Curtis coaxed her gently.
He always did–anything she asked, he would find a way to fulfill.
Adriana suddenly became a little greedy. “Curtis … can I come to Capitol tomorrow? I can take the high- speed rail. It’s fast. We can head to Harborton together from there.”
She didn’t want him traveling back and forth alone.
Curtis went quiet for a long time before chuckling softly. “You miss me that much?”
Adriana didn’t deny it.
She really did miss him. She wished she could pack her things right now and run to him.
“Then, I’ll buy the earliest ticket tomorrow,” Adriana said with excitement.
Curtis didn’t respond to that. He simply told her to rest well, then ended the video call.
Adriana lay on her bed, staring at the empty space beside her, unable to sleep.
She pulled Curtis’s pillow toward her and hugged it tightly.
She had never imagined she could be this hopelessly attached to someone.
Before bed, Joe called her.
