Eva’s face instantly drained of color. She looked nervously at Joe. “W–What … what are you talking about?”
“Eva, I’m the one who called the police.” Adriana walked down the stairs, her voice icy. “I installed surveillance in the kitchen. You can hand over the medicine yourself and explain the truth… or I can let Officer Richardson open a full criminal case and send people to arrest you.”
Adriana’s glare was sharp and cold.
Eva’s face grew paler by the second. She wasn’t a naturally malicious person, and when a fundamentally decent person does something awful, their guilt practically bleeds through their expression.
She wrung her hands anxiously, her voice trembling. “Adriana … it’s all a misunderstanding … I heard you miscarried, so I wanted to help nourish your body
“The food has already been tested,” Adriana said, walking closer. “It contains compounds that can cause permanent infertility. Do you still want to lie? I’m only giving you this chance because of old times‘ sake. Either you confess, or you go to prison. And if you end up in jail, you know exactly how much it will affect your son’s life.”
Adriana intentionally pressed the softest part of Eva’s defenses–her son.
Everyone has a weakness. No exception.
Eva immediately panicked, her voice shaking. “Mr. Lincoln hired me … I belong to the Lincoln Estate. You have no authority to deal with me.”
Eva was still resisting.
“You should know better than anyone how much Curtis cares about this child. He even had the guts to send Belinda to the police. What makes you think you would be treated differently?” Adriana asked with a cold laugh.
Eva’s shoulders sagged. Her head dropped. After struggling internally for a long time, she finally spoke through a tight throat. “It was Mr. Harold … He told me to do it. He doesn’t want your marriage to Mr. Lincoln to last too long. As long as you can’t get pregnant, Mr. Curtis will have no excuse to stay married to you. The Lincolns owe the Bartons, and Mr. Curtis must marry the Bartons‘ missing eldest daughter-
Nicole Barton.”
Adriana inhaled sharply. She had suspected as much. “So Harold didn’t just want to stop me from getting pregnant now–he didn’t want my previous pregnancy to survive either. Why? He used to worry that Curtis would never have a child. He used to beg for Curtis to have a baby.”
“Because…” Eva’s eyes reddened. She lowered her head again. “Because there is now another heir who can continue the Lincoln bloodline. Mr. Michael and his wife had a son, Denton Lincoln. Years ago, in front of the Bartons, Mr. Harold signed an agreement: all his assets would be inherited by Mr. Curtis’s descendants. Meaning more than half of the Lincoln Group’s shares belong to Mr. Curtis… and the other half to his child.
Adriana exchanged a look with Joe–this confirmed everything.
Years ago, Harold placed all future inheritance rights onto Curtis’s children, even fearing Nicole might

But now Michael was back–and brought along a second grandson: Denton.

So, if Adriana successfully gave birth to Curtis’s child… the entire Lincoln inheritance would go to Adriana’s baby.
That meant Harold would be left with nothing–no authority, no assets, no shares to give Denton.
Of course… considering he already disliked Adriana and always believed Curtis would have more children later, it made sense he’d want to stall for time and quietly get rid of her pregnancy.
He probably never expected Belinda to make the first move and end that child, but fate had helped him all the same.
So, Harold followed up by making sure Adriana would struggle to conceive ever again.
If Adriana could never get pregnant, he would have an excuse to force a divorce. And if Curtis refused to divorce, then Harold could openly redirect inheritance toward Denton.
A businessman to the core.
“Adriana … the wealthy are like this. Schemes, betrayals … Fathers don’t act like fathers, sons aren’t sons… Eva shook her head helplessly.
She looked exhausted–trapped and helpless. She was a single mother, and her job under the Lincolns determined her son’s future. She had done terrible things because she felt she had no choice.
