Chapter 21 Would All This Have Been Worth It?
Adriana was locked up in a pitch–black storage room, just waiting for the cops to show.

She had started the livestream before she even came to Nera Club. Everyone watching had seen the guards snatch her phone, so someone was bound to call the police.
Adriana had also mentioned Nera Club loud and clear during the stream.
Bang! The door burst open, and Rufus stumbled in, clearly drunk.
Natasha had sent him.
She wasn’t going to get her hands dirty herself, but her brother had been drinking upstairs.
“Bitch, you think you can mess with my sister and get away with it?” Rufus shouted, furious. “You think this will make Matthew want you? Dream on. He’s marrying Natasha! Even if I kill you right now, it won’t matter to him!” He stormed over, grabbed her shirt, and sneered. “You think I wouldn’t dare touch you just because you’ve been with Matthew for a few years?”
Then, he started yanking at her clothes. “You’re done for…”
He cursed non–stop, his voice full of rage.
In the tight, dark space, Adriana didn’t fight back. She let him do whatever he wanted.
This time, she wasn’t scared anymore.
Once she decided to fight until the end, people like him didn’t seem so scary–just pathetic.
She let him shove her down, slap her across the face, and tear at her clothes.
Blood was dripping from her mouth, and her nose was bleeding too.
Her whole face stung.
Her eyes were swelling shut.
“If you weren’t kinda decent–looking, I wouldn’t give you a second glance,” Rufus spat, still bitter that she’d turned him down years ago.
He started pulling down his pants.
Adriana landed on top of some junk. When she saw what he was about to do, she laughed coldly.
“Wow… That’s not very impressive,” she said, mocking m.
Rufus had a weak ego, and that one jab set him off.
He grabbed her hair and slammed her head into the wall.
Bang!
Right before she passed out, someone kicked the door en.
There was shouting and chaos outside.

Adriana barely made out the police arguing with the club’s manager.
“You have no right to search the place! Your chief and Iave an agreement…”
“We got a report. Don’t get in our way.
“If you interfere, we’ll arrest you too!”
Good thing I stopped by the station and talked to Officer Richardson ahead of time…
“Bastard!”
Adriana thought the police would be the first ones to rescue her.
But the person who tackled Rufus turned out to be Curtis…
Am I imagining things?
“Adriana… Hey, stay with me!”

Adriana didn’t know how long she was out. When she finally woke up, she was in a hospital bed–inside a VIP ward, no less.
She looked around, confused. She tried to sit up, but the pain in her shoulder stopped her.
Rufus hadn’t held back.
“You’re awake.” Curtis had been here the whole time. He stood up the second she opened her eyes. “You really thought livestreaming would keep you safe? What were you thinking, going to that place alone?”
Adriana blinked at him, unsure why he was even here—or why he was so mad. “Mr. Lincoln, why are you here?”
He let out a deep breath. “My assistant saw your stream. Luckily, I was still in Haldoria.”
Curtis had been on his way back to Harborton with Harold. But while on the road, his assistant noticed the livestream.
He didn’t know why he came himself. He could’ve sent someone else.
“Thanks,” Adriana said quietly. She looked down.
“Didn’t you say earlier that you had no way to fight back And now, you’re pulling stunts like this?” Curtis frowned.
“This time… I have a reason,” Adriana said with a soft smile.
This time, she was ready to die for it if she had to.
If she was gone, at least the orphanage wouldn’t get dragged down too.
“Don’t worry about me, Mr. Lincoln. I’m not exactly… some great person.” She tried to laugh, wincing at the pain.
