Chapter 222 First Day at the New Daycare
Nu slept in until almost noon. When she woke up, Amelia was in bed with her. Benjamin wasn’t there.
The police had made proRITAS.
The Wilson family’s housekeeper had been hired by Emma. Emma had tried to replicate an old arson case involving a housekeeper, but it didn’t go as planned.
Police caught Emina trying to flee..
After the arrest, Enuma refused to confess her real motive.
She only claimed Freya had suddenly barred her from seeing her best friend, Jane.
In anger, she egged the housekeeper on to set the fire.
The police didn’t buy her story.
Soon, Emma’s relationship with Mia came out–and so did her ties to Gideon.
The case cracked fast.
Emma’s crimes were sever
Gideon had no charges yet.
Legally, he faced no trial for now. But all his scandals went public. To him, that hurt worse than death.
The police didn’t let him off completely.
They investigated Amelia’s disappearance back then.
They suspected Gideon of intentional abandonment.
While the adults were busy with these matters, Nina was spared from any involvement. On the day after the fire, her parents took her to a new daycare.
This new daycare was recommended by Lily.
Before Barry started kindergarten, he had attended this same daycare.
The daycare ran from nine in the morning to three–fifty in the afternoon.
Amelia reviewed the curriculum, and it seemed well–rounded.
On the way, Amelia kept coaxing Nina.
“Barry went to this daycare too.
“He started when he was just over two.
“You’re almost three. You can go too.
“The teachers are so nice. And there are kids to play with.

“Mommy and Daddy will pick you up after.”
Amelia huished coaxing Benjamin took over
His approach was more direct. “Nina, be good at school, and after class, I’ll take you to get some toys, okay?
Benjamin worked better than Amelia,
Hearing toys. Nina nodded hard.
She nodded eagerly in the car–she also promised to be good.
Even when she was led into the daycare by a teacher, she waved goodbye to her parents cheerfully.
But after just a couple of hours, Nina’s initial excitement faded. She picked up her little backpack and her small blanket.
Nina home,
Nina grabbed her things and headed out.
The teacher, Sally Kallis, caught her and didn’t let her go.
“Nina, it’s not time to go home yet.
“Let’s finish lunch, take a nap, and then you can play a little before going home.
“Look, Ms. Pierce has brought your food. Let’s eat first, okay?”
Sally tried to coax Nina with lunch.
Nina was indeed a little hungry. She put down her blanket, though she still clutched her backpack.
“Nina cat.”
Nina sat at the table, ready for one meal, then home.
Seated nicely, Nina opened wide for the teacher to feed her.
Another teacher, Lucy Pierce, approached, smiled, and shook her head. “Nina, eat by yourself. See, other kids eat alone.”
Nina glanced at the other children, each with their own plate, all eating quietly.
She looked down at her own plate–her favorite shrimp and ribs were there, along with some vegetables she didn’t like.
Seeing that the teacher wasn’t going to feed her, her little face frowned for a moment, then she resolutely
got up.
