“There’s no point trying to reason with her anymore,” Felicia snapped, her glare fixed on Adriana. “She clearly doesn’t know her place. I’ll say this once–take the easy way out now, or don’t blame us when things get ugly.”

Adriana gave her a sharp look. “And what exactly do you think you’ll do?”

“You’re digging your own grave,” Matthew said, his voice going cold before he turned to leave.

Felicia huffed. “You’ll get what’s coming.”

She stomped after Matthew, grumbling as she caught up “You can’t just walk away from this. Natasha and Rufus are your responsibility too.”

Matthew’s expression grew darker. “I’ll deal with Natasha, but Rufus? He made his own mess. You all let him get out of control. Whatever happens now, he brought it on himself.”

Felicia’s expression twitched, but she pressed on. “Still, you’re family. He’s your future brother–in–law. You can’t pretend like he doesn’t matter.”

“If I hadn’t stepped in four years ago, he would’ve already been behind bars,” Matthew snapped, then walked off in frustration.

Left standing there, Felicia clenched her jaw. That bitch,driana, has stirred up way too much trouble. She’ll have to be dealt with sooner or later.

Early the next morning, Matthew showed up at the police station with a group of lawyers.

His assistant rushed over. “Mr. Langford, the Lincolns have sent in their top legal team for Adriana. Rufus’s case isn’t looking good. These are the best attorneys in Harborton.” He sounded clearly panicked. “Plus, there’s strong evidence against Rufus. On top of that, he might be charged with drug use too. It’s not looking like he’s getting out of this one.”

Matthew’s expression turned stormy.

Why is Curtis always stepping in to help Adriana?

His assistant hesitated before adding, “And Natasha… The surveillance footage and that livestream caught everything. She was the one who had Adriana locked up It’s hard to defend her now.”

Matthew took a long breath and pulled out his phone to call Curtis.

After a long wait, Curtis finally picked up.

“You’re still in Haldoria?” Matthew asked, keeping it polite.

“Yeah, got a few things to take care of. I’ll be heading out in a few days,” Curtis replied smoothly.

Matthew went on carefully, “I heard your legal team’s handling a dispute involving someone close to me.”

“A dispute?” Curtis answered calmly. “It’s a criminal case

Matthew’s expression darkened. “Come on, Mr. Lincoln. No need to make a big deal out of something small. Let’s avoid any unnecessary conflict.”

“I owe her my gratitude,” Curtis said, voice cool. “She cheered up my grandfather, which isn’t easy. He’s the one who asked me to send legal support. I’m just following orders.” Curtis wasn’t stupid–he knew how to play this right.

The Langfords and the Lincolns couldn’t afford to go at each other publicly. But now that Harold was involved, Matthew’s hands were tied.

There was no way he’d dare call Harold directly. The old man had retired and wasn’t in great health.
