“Kian, don’t be in such a rush. We love playing with little kids,” the boy said, keeping his hand on Kian’s shoulder.

Another boy echoed, “I heard your brother goes to that Sunbeam Daycare, right? My mom says. that place is really expensive. So his little friends here… they must be from rich families. Lucky them.”

Kian went to a very ordinary school.

His parents could have afforded to send him to an international school or a better public school, but they thought international schools were too competitive and materialistic, so they decided not to send him there.

As for the better public schools, they were so busy that they missed the deadline for applications.

So Kian ended up at this very average elementary school.

And at this average school, Kian got unlucky and became a target for bullies.

The three older boys who had followed him home were the ones who had been bullying him lately.

They took his money and beat him up-they even made him take off his clothes first before they hit him.

Kian had tried to tell his teacher, but it turned out his teacher was the father of one of the bullies.

So the teacher didn’t believe him.

Afterwards, the teacher’s son beat him even worse.

Kian was so miserable that he didn’t want to go to school. His busy parents, hearing he didn’t want to go to school, finally found time to come home and scold him harshly.

Helpless, Kian had to keep going.

Every school day was torture now.

While Kian was talking to Ryder, Nina, who had been sitting in front of the TV, climbed up from the carpet.

Holding her juice box, she walked over to Kian. “You. so pwetty.”

Nina was a total fan of pretty faces. She loved anyone who was good-looking.

To show that she liked him, she held out her chubby arms. “Hold me?”

She would allow this pretty big boy to hold her.

Kian looked at the unfamiliar little girl. He hesitated, then picked her up briefly.

He could barely hold her.

As he did, the bruises on his arms and chest got pressed when he held her, and he almost cried out in pain.

“Alright, Kian, let’s go to your room first. We’ll play with them later,” one of the older boys said, slinging an arm around Kian’s shoulders again. The three bullies steered Kian toward his room.

Ryder knew Kian was being bullied, but he had never seen the bullies.

He thought the boys coming home with Kian were friends. So even though they seemed a bit odd, he didn’t think much of it.

Nina, though, was suspicious. She watched Kian being led away, her little eyebrows furrowed.
