Chapter 31 Resign
Adriana froze for a second. Danielle…

Then it hit her. Danielle Barton, the Barton family’s eldest daughter. She was one of the most famous young architects in the field. She had designed the Twin Towers in Harborton when she was only 18, which instantly made her famous.
The Bartons were also the only family in Harborton that could rival the Lincolns.
“If Danielle weren’t busy with her family right now, you wouldn’t even have this chance. But I already told her about it–she’s coming to Haldoria soon to take Curtis back,” Belinda said with a huff before turning to leave.
Adriana let out a sigh of relief and sat back down to eat a little more.
But now she was starting to feel unsure. Earning 30 million a year … didn’t seem as easy as she had thought.
Wait… does this mean I might have to deal with the Bartons‘ heiress too?
“The Bartons and the Lincolns‘ marriage was arranged back when Mr. Harold and Mr. Barton were young,” Eva started gossiping. She only spoke after Belinda went inside. “But actually, I heard the one engaged to Mr. Lincoln isn’t Danielle–it’s the Bartons‘ real heiress, Nicole Barton.”
“The real eldest daughter?” Adriana was puzzled.
Rich family gossip was way too complicated.
“The head of the Bartons, Jeremy Barton, actually had the last name Callahan. He started from nothing, went into business, and got rich after marrying into the Bartons of Harborton. So technically, the Bartons‘ fortune should belong to Jeremy’s son from his first wife–Audrey Barton. But, you know how rich families are–full of drama. Over twenty years ago, Mr. Barton and his wife were killed in Haldoria, and their baby daughter, Nicole, disappeared.”
Eva sighed, feeling bad for the couple. “And that Danielle? She’s actually Jeremy’s illegitimate son’s daughter, not the real heiress. If the real heiress ever comes back, all the family’s wealth would belong to her.”
Adriana nodded, half understanding.
The Bartons sure were a mess.
Bang! A loud crash came from Belinda’s room–clearly done on purpose so Adriana could hear

That was her way of showing she wasn’t happy with Adriana.
Adriana couldn’t do anything but endure it.
After all, her marriage to Curtis was just a job.
And what job doesn’t drive you crazy?

After a sleepless night, Adriana merely wanted a nap before heading to Langford Group to sign her resignation papers. But Belinda was blasting music and dancing downstairs way she could sleep.
With dark circles under her eyes, Adriana left the villa feeling drained.

If that “young lady” started acting crazy again tonight, she might actually drop dead.
“Adriana, is it true you’re quitting?” one of her coworkers asked the moment she walked into the office.
Adriana gave a polite nod.
“So, what’s your deal with Mr. Langford? Did you really sleep with him?” another coworker joked shamelessly.
Adriana ignored them.
“Come on, Adriana, you must be good if you managed to hook up with Mr. Langford. Share some tips!”
Again, she said nothing.
“Adriana.” Matthew’s cold voice cut through the noise, and everyone instantly went quiet.
Adriana looked over. Matthew was standing beside Natasha, along with an ordinary–looking man who was glaring at her with clear hostility.
The man was around six feet tall, average face, but his stare swept over Adriana from head to toe like he was sizing her up.
“Anna,” Natasha said with a fake smile. “This is Jimmy Cooper, one of our newly promoted employees in the project department. He’s capable, and even though his family background isn’t much, he’s a good match for you.” She glanced at Jimmy and added, “If you marry him, you’ll have a stable, comfortable life.”

Adriana looked straight at Matthew.
He looked away, saying nothing.
It was obvious that he was planning to let Natasha take full charge.
