Amelia wrapped her arms firmly around Nina, keeping the little girl from crawling over to Nelson’s side.
Nina couldn’t move her body anymore, but her mouth was still free.
“Nelson!” she called out, chattering nonstop. “You sleep?”
Nelson knew Amelia was trying to get Nina to sleep, so he stayed quiet on purpose and didn’t answer.
Nina didn’t get a reply, but that didn’t stop her.
“Nelson, play card?” she asked again.
Nelson kept silent.
Amelia finally reached her limit. It was already eleven o lock at night.
Nina really couldn’t stay up any longer!
With no other choice, Amelia started singing the soft lullaby that always worked like magic on her daughter.
Slowly, Nina’s eyelids grew heavy, and she finally flopped down flat on her back, arms and legs splayed out like a little starfish. Her chubby fists rested on either side of her head.
Amelia looked at her now-peaceful daughter and let out a long, relieved breath.
“Finally quiet.”
After getting Nina to sleep, Amelia shifted over to Nelson’s side of the bed.
“Nelson, do you want me to help you fall asleep?”
Nelson shook his head gently. His voice was soft. “I can sleep by myself.”
Amelia knew how independent he was, but she still reached out anyway. Just like she did with Nina every night, she began patting his back in a slow, gentle rhythm.
“Go to sleep. There are a lot of people here tonight. If you can’t fall asleep or feel uncomfortable, just tell me. I’ll stay right here and help you.”
Nelson said he didn’t need help, but under Amelia’s stealy, comforting pats, he fell asleep faster and more peacefully than he ever had before.
Once both children were asleep, Amelia slipped back to Benjamin’s side.
Nina had originally been sleeping between them, but now she had somehow scooted all the way up to the pillows.
Amelia glanced at her, smiled softly, and didn’t move her. She just leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to Nina’s forehead.
Amelia sighed, “Benjamin, today was exhausting.”

Chapter 343 Bedtime
The whole day had been overwhelming-for the adults and the kids.
Amelia wrapped her arms tighter around Benjamin’s waist and buried her face against his chest.
Benjamin patted her back in the same soothing rhythm he’d used on Nelson carlier.
“You worked hard.”

He bent down and kissed the top of her head. “Rest well tomorrow. No need to take care of the kids-I’ll handle them.”
Amelia shook her head immediately.
“No, you don’t have to. I know how busy you are lately.
“Nina will be at daycare-she doesn’t need constant watching. And Nelson is so well-behaved. Looking after him isn’t tiring at all. You don’t need to stay home for us
Amelia was always attentive. She could tell Benjamin had been under a lot of pressure recently.
She had even asked him about it once or twice, but he never gave a straight answer.
