Danielle smiled. “So you’re admitting you plagiarized?”
Adriana sat there coolly, gently spinning the ring on her finger. It was her wedding ring with Curtis. Ever since his ‘accident,‘ she had never taken it off.
“Adriana, you’d better explain yourself. Don’t drag down the entire Barton Group’s architecture design department with you! If this gets out, how is the Barton Group supposed to survive in this industry? The Barton Group executives were losing their composure.
If Danielle had accused her in private, they might have found a way to contain the fallout. But with so many reporters and industry leaders present, there was no way for the Barton Group to cover up for Adriana.
“Plagiarized?” Adriana let out a soft laugh.
Her calmness rattled Danielle even more. She scowled, angry and anxious. “Adriana, you’re a rookie, It’s fine if your work isn’t perfect–there’s still room to grow. There’s no need to ruin your reputation with plagiarism. Even Grandpa would feel ashamed of you.”
“Grandpa wouldn’t feel ashamed of me. He’d just hate you and your leech of a father even more.” Adriana stood and glanced at Kenneth.
Kenneth nodded and plugged a flash drive into the judge’s computer.
“Ms. Danielle was so confident–she stole the draft from someone else’s computer and the original sketches but never bothered to double–check them.” Adriana’s lips curled into a faint smile.
She’d put out all those red herrings just to set up this moment.
Her goal was to make Danielle panic so she would keep the original draft for so long but never dare change or analyze it.
Danielle was so scared she’d lose to the original or that she couldn’t destroy Adriana completely.
Adriana had seen right through that vicious streak.
“Even setting aside the fact that I published the original draft on Pastalia’s competition platform a year ago, I completed the rough sketch with my advisor’s guidance, and the whole process was recorded on video. And…” Adriana smiled, “my advisor also taught me to protect my intellectual property with a hidden ancient combination lock system in the drawings themselves.”
Adriana found the coded numbers in the enlarged charcoal sketch.
“This is a tic–tac–toe code–when the numbers are converted, they spell out my initials.” Adriana’s smile didn’t waver.
Everyone stared at the big screen, shocked as the numbers appeared–sure enough, they were her initials.
The room went silent. Danielle’s face was whiter than a sheet.
She sucked in a sharp breath and didn’t recover for a long time.
