Curtis looked deeply into Adriana’s eyes and remained quiet for a long time before finally saying, “No.”

He hadn’t seen her before.

Adriana let out a small sigh of relief. So it really was just her imagination.

When the car stopped in the underground parking lot, Curtis led Adriana into the elevator.

Honestly, if he just wanted to give her something, he could’ve easily asked the store to deliver it. But he chose to take her out himself.

The moment they stepped out of the elevator, Adriana froze. Haldoria really was small, because right in front of her was Natasha.

And Natasha wasn’t with Matthew; she was with Danielle, the Bartons‘ eldest daughter.

“Curtis?” Danielle saw him and greeted him excitedly.

Natasha’s eyes landed on Adriana, and her expression instantly darkened. “Wow, you really pop up everywhere.”

Danielle turned to Natasha, curious. “You two know each other?”

Natasha gave her a quick glance and said coolly, “She’s Anna, the one I told you about.”

Danielle’s look toward Adriana turned sharp and full of disgust. “So it’s her! Guess she’s more capable than I thought.”

Adriana kept her head down, ignoring them, and tried to walk away. She didn’t want to cause any trouble for Curtis.

But Curtis reached out and took Adriana’s hand right in front of both women. “Do you have a problem with my wife?”

As soon as he said it, Natasha stared at Adriana in shock.

Adriana was just as shocked, looking at Curtis.

Aren’t we supposed to keep the marriage secret?

Natasha was so shocked she couldn’t speak for a while. His wife?

Has Curtis lost his mind? Marrying an orphan?

Danielle was taken aback, but since she’d already heard something from Belinda, she wasn’t that surprised.

“No problem,” she said quietly. “I just think… she’s not good enough for you. Besides, our families have a marriage agreement, even if …”

Danielle trailed off, unable to finish her own sentence.

After all, the engagement wasn’t hers to begin with.

“My wife is amazing,” Curtis said, looking straight at Adriana.

He meant it.

Adriana’s SAT scores and her talent for design had both amazed him.

There weren’t many women who could genuinely impress Curtis.

During her four years with Matthew, he only noticed that she was obedient, pretty, and had a body he liked. He never bothered to look deeper and recognize her true strengths.

Adriana was the top student in her class, the best student from that small town where her orphanage was. Her achievements were the real deal.

Adriana stared blankly at Curtis.

So this is what it feels like to have your hard work recognized.

An indescribable warmth filled her, and she instinctively held her head higher.

“Mr. Lincoln …” Natasha spoke up, unwilling to let it go, but Danielle grabbed her wrist to stop her.

Natasha might not understand Curtis well, but Danielle did.

Curtis was not someone you wanted to mess with.

Curtis gave Natasha a cold glance, then took Adriana’s hand and walked away.

“How could Curtis be interested in Adriana? I mean, how could he marry her?” Natasha was getting anxious. She couldn’t accept that an orphan–a woman she had always looked down on -was suddenly on her level.

Curtis was basically the crown prince of Harborton. Countless women tried to get close to him. Even Danielle once went out of her way to win him over.
