Chapter 394 Who’s That Man?
Samuel had only left him at the orphanage temporarily, but the clothes and shoes he wore—and everything he had—were things the other kids had never seen.
He’d been quiet and withdrawn since he was little. Other than Adriana, he didn’t speak to any of the other kids.
At the time, Thomas was a skinny teenage boy, not even as tall as Adriana… completely different from the man now standing nearly six feet three inches tall.
Adriana truly found it hard to connect the two people as the same person
“You… you really are Thomas?” she asked, still unsure. When Silas only smiled and didn’t deny it, her shock deepened.
“Yes.” Silas nodded.
It was a direct answer.
He was Thomas.
Adriana clearly remembered that year. The orphanage’s relief funds had been cut, and the children’s meals had to be reduced. Afraid of making things harder for Lydia, Adriana ate only one meal a day, hoping to save more food for the younger kids.
Because of malnutrition, she had nearly passed out from hunger. It was Thomas who offered her his chicken drumstick.
That was the very first real connection they’d had since he arrived at the orphanage.
Thomas had always kept to himself. He had his own room and separate meals, and he rarely even showed up in the dining hall.
Adriana had only felt that he pushed everyone away and never thought to approach him first.
And yet, he was the one who reached out first.
After that, Thomas would often bring her food.
She felt deeply grateful to him, like he was the older brother she never had.
Thomas once told Adriana that his name was Thomas–Hill was his mother’s last name, and he was an abandoned child.
“Adriana, I remember you once said we were family.” Silas looked at Adriana, his eyes still burning with emotion.
Adriana fell silent.
Back then, when Thomas said he was an abandoned child, she had comforted him. She told him he wasn’t unwanted–that they were family.
And in truth, she really had thought of him as an older brother.
But one year later. Thomas was taken away,
Adriana had cried for a long time. The brother she had just begun to rely on was gone too.
