Chapter 58 Orphanage Visit

Adriana glanced at Curtis nervously. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t apologize to me. I’m not the one you owe an apology to.” Curtis frowned.

“She said that in less than two weeks, you’d divorce me.” Adriana lowered her gaze and muttered.

“So, what, I married you just for looks?” Curtis rubbed his temples in frustration. “You actually believe her nonsense? Who’s your husband here? Me or her?”

Adriana exhaled deeply. “She just sounded so confident.”

“So you take her word for it just because she sounded sure of herself?” Curtis let out a sharp laugh, clearly irritated. “Next time, tell me right away.”

Adriana nodded obediently.

“And if there’s anyone you don’t like, you don’t have to deal with them or show them any courtesy, including my grandfather,” Curtis added calmly.

She looked at him curiously.

But wasn’t this whole fake marriage for Harold’s sake? How could she possibly disrespect him?

“If there’s ever an issue with my grandfather, he’ll come to me first, not you. I’ll handle it. All I want from you is to trust me. No questions.” Curtis said evenly.

Adriana nodded again.

The car stopped at the old orphanage grounds. The children were laughing and playing basketball in the yard.

Most of them had been abandoned due to disabilities or health issues, leaving them unadopted and dependent on the orphanage.

Some were already over eighteen, but Lydia couldn’t bear to send them away.

The orphanage had become their permanent home.

“Adriana’s back!” Mary from the kitchen shouted excitedly when she saw her.

Moments later, Lydia came out with several of the staff.

“Lydia.” Adriana’s voice cracked with emotion,

It hit her that it had been four whole years since she’d gone to college … and she hadn’t returned once.

During that time, she’d only kept in touch through phone calls and money transfers.

Matthew had refused to visit the orphanage with her, and trips from Haldoria to Francisca County were too expensive. Adriana couldn’t afford it, so she just sent money instead.

Lydia smiled and patted her back. “We’re doing alright. The renovation approval finally came through. We almost had to shut down because of funding, but… the Lincoln Group’s charity foundation found us.”

Her voice trembled with emotion.

It seemed their luck had finally changed.

Adriana turned to Curtis with gratitude. “Lydia, this is Mr. Lincoln, the CEO of Lincoln Group.”

Lydia’s eyes widened, overcome with joy. “Thank you so much…”

Curtis approached and shook her hand. “No, thank you for taking care of Adriana all these years.”

Lydia blinked, surprised, glancing over at Adriana.

Her heart raced with unease.

Weren’t they supposed to keep the marriage hidden? Did Curtis really have to say that here?

“I’m Adriana’s husband. Curtis Lincoln.” He introduced himself without hesitation.

Adriana opened her mouth, uncertain why he kept revealing their relationship everywhere they went.

If this marriage was just for show within his company, there was no point in telling Lydia and the others.

Because once they divorced, how would she ever explain it?

“Husband? Adriana, you’re married? Why didn’t you tell me … “Lydia’s voice wavered. She knew Adriana wasn’t the type to hide something like that; was there more to the story?

Feeling guilty, Adriana murmured, “Lydia … it’s just that Curtis and I are still figuring things out. I wanted to wait until things were certain before saying anything, in case it didn’t work out.”

“Marriage is no small matter, dear. I didn’t even get you anything.” Lydia’s tone was full of concern.

“Lydia, please, you don’t have to get anything,” Adriana said quickly.

“There’s no need to rush,” Curtis interjected. “Adriana and I only just got our certificate. When we hold the wedding, you’ll definitely be there as her family.”
