“Curtis, it’s because the Lincolns are a wealthy, established family that we need to test people. Otherwise, gold–digging women who marry for money would walk right in, and everyone would laugh at us,” Curtis’s aunt, Rosa Lincoln, said deliberately.
Her words were meant to provoke Adriana.
Everyone had seen the news trending online–they all knew Adriana had been a sugar baby.
“Even if I weren’t part of the Lincolns, I would never let my wife suffer, not even a little. Aunt Rosa, I remember you started as a singer. To put it bluntly, back then, you were an entertainer,” Curtis said sharply. never giving anyone an inch of respect.
Besides, they were clearly trying to humiliate Adriana.
Rosa’s face darkened as she looked at Curtis. “You pamper her now, and sooner or later, you’ll spoil her
rotten.”
Curtis smiled. “That would actually be great. I always worry my wife is too kind and doesn’t know how to stand up for herself. If I could spoil her a little more…
He looked at Adriana. “Then I’d be relieved, instead of worrying every day that someone might take advantage of her.”
She froze, staring at Curtis.
Despite knowing this was a contract, despite knowing Curtis was protecting her and all his words were a show, her heart still raced uncontrollably.
“Nonsense,” Harold said, banging the table lightly as he looked at Adriana. “If you won’t let her serve tea, let her come with Rosa to learn about our family’s customs.”
Rosa smirked, standing up to face Adriana. “Come on. I’ll show you how the Lincolns do things.”
“The Lincolns‘ customs? I’ve never heard of them. Might as well learn something new,” Curtis said while gripping Adriana’s hand tightly, unwilling to let her leave his side.
Adriana shifted nervously in place. She was just an employee in this scenario; naturally, she had to follow her boss’s lead.
“Curtis, this won’t do. These are rules every woman should know, you men don’t need to listen,” a few other
aunts chimed in.
“Jeremy, do the Bartons have these rules, since you were a royal family line back in the day?” Curtis asked, turning to Jeremy.
Jeremy’s gaze never left Adriana.
She looks so much like her…
Harold shook his head after a moment. “No, we don’t…

Curtis had asked on purpose. Everyone knew Jeremy had built his fortune by marrying into the Bartons. He had even been granted the Barton surname,
So how could the Bartons possibly have these outdated rules for women?
“Grandpa, look at the times we live in. The Bartons don’t have these rules, yet the Lincolns still cling to them. People would laugh their heads off if they heard,” Curtis said, pulling Adriana into his arms in front of everyone, including Jeremy.
“Besides, Adriana is pregnant. In the early stages, she mustn’t be overworked.”
Everyone’s eyes widened. This little girl really played her cards well–she’s already pregnant?
Adriana blinked, equally shocked, looking at Curtis. Pregnant?
Harold’s expression darkened, and he struggled before speaking. “Well that was fast.”
Rosa murmured beside him. “Is it the Lincolns‘ child? I heard she was kept by someone else before. Maybe
it’s not even ours.”
