Chapter 65 Morning With Curtis

Adriana just wanted to find a hole to crawl into. She buried her face in Curtis’s shoulder and shook her head.
Curtis smiled and held her as they showered together.
Her body was still sensitive, and even the lightest touch from Curtis made her tremble all over.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to do anything,” Curtis said plainly.
Adriana clutched him and whispered, “Do you think I’m easy?”
They had only been married a few days, and they were already sleeping together.
Even if it was technically to accomplish a goal, to meet some KPI, it was still early in their marriage.
“You’re my wife. Which married couple waits this long? New wedding nights aren’t for talking, you know?” Curtis was already scolding himself silently. I should have coaxed her into bed the very day we signed the papers.
I’d been holding out for so long for nothing.
Adriana stammered, “B–but we don’t have any real feelings.”
It’s a rush marriage, a contract, not a relationship that grew naturally.
“It’s not too late to start building that foundation now.”
Curtis rinsed her off completely, wrapped her up, and carried her back to the bed.
Adriana felt dizzy; she almost believed the sweet words Curtis whispered after.
For a moment, she thought, Could Curtis actually be in love with me?
That’s impossible.
I only needed to complete the task, get pregnant with Curtis’s baby, and wait for Harold to pass away…
“Go to sleep.”
That night, Curtis held Adriana as they slept.
He no longer let her lie alone at the edge of the bed, instead cradling her in his arms.
Listening to his heartbeat, Adriana finally had a peaceful night.
No dreams, no waking up in a panic.
Since her first–year college experience with bullying, Adriana rarely slept through the night without nightmares.
She had been overly dependent on Matthew because she lacked a sense of security.
Now she understood–security didn’t only come from him.

She had once nearly lost herself for him.

She had even stood on the edge of a bridge, staring down, thinking death would be relief….
A passing girl had advised her that there were three and a half billion men in the world; if one didn’t work out, there would be another.
Back then, Adriana had thought she would never escape Matthew’s grasp.
But now, another man lay beside her.
A man who treated her with respect.
Only … it was a pity his heart wasn’t hers.
The next morning, Adriana woke to find Curtis still asleep.
He had canceled all his appointments for the day, planning to spend it enjoying Harborton with her.
Her fingers lightly traced Curtis’s face as she gazed at him, mesmerized–he was truly the kind of man who could make hearts flutter.
“Shall we try again today?” Curtis smirked, pulling her into his arms. “Increase the odds a little?”
Adriana’s neck flushed red as she murmured, “You’ve been awake this whole time …
Curtis looked down at her shy, pressing form in his arms and smiled. “I went downstairs for a workout, then showered, and even ordered breakfast for you while I was at it.”
Adriana was surprised. Did I really sleep that deeply?
“You should get moving too.” Curtis pinched her cheek and kissed her again.
He used to think he wasn’t interested in sex, but now he realized… he was practically a wild beast in bed.
But it didn’t matter. She was his wife.
All he wanted now was to devour Adriana.
Adriana lay on the bed, lost in thought. Is this really how you get pregnant?
Now that it was actually happening, she started to panic.
When Curtis had first mentioned having a child during their marriage, she hadn’t given it much thought.
Now… she worried. If I really get pregnant, will my baby need to know about me?
After the divorce, will Curtis still let me see the baby?
“Time for breakfast.”
