Acting as if she didn’t know beforehand, Danielle tilted her head and waved at Curtis and the rest in the side room. “Dad, Grandpa, I’m back.”

Kelsey got up delightedly. “Danielle, you’re back! Sit down and rest. Oh, you must be tired. How long are you staying this time?”

Danielle shook her head with a smile. “I just came to Harborton to serve as a judge for an architecture competition.”

“See, my daughter is incredible and talented. Curtis really has questionable taste,” Kelsey said with a sour tone, clearly meant for Adriana.

Adriana didn’t look up. She didn’t care about these people.

All she could think about was how much that bracelet was worth.

“Curtis, this place is so boring. I’ll take Adriana out shopping,” Danielle said, grabbing Adriana’s hand without asking.

Curtis frowned. “No need.”

Curtis declined on Adriana’s behalf.

“Oh, you’re so protective. What, are you afraid I’ll eat her? Chill out, or you’ll scare her off,” Danielle teased, winking at Curtis.

“Curtis, my dad’s calling you,” Chandler shouted.

“Don’t worry about me. I’ll be back soon.” Adriana didn’t want Curtis to feel troubled.

“Call me if you need anything,” Curtis instructed, not entirely at ease.

Adriana nodded and followed Danielle out.

If he keeps his eyes glued to me at these family gatherings, people will laugh at him, right?

“Wow, you’re really coming out with me? Aren’t you afraid I’ll sell you off?” Danielle smirked as they left the living room.

Adriana wasn’t intimidated. “You wouldn’t dare.”
