“This bracelet is just a symbol for the Lincolns‘ daughter–in–law. It doesn’t mean anything. Don’t think it makes you special in Curtis’s eyes.”
Danielle’s words completely shattered the tiny bit of doubt and fantasy Adriana had been holding onto.
I knew it. I was too naive.
“When Curtis was 18, he was willing to cut ties with his family for Cynthia. When he was 20, he was ready to die for her…” Danielle leaned back in her seat, gazing out the car window. “Do you have any idea how jealous that makes me?”
Adriana stayed silent, feeling a small discomfort in her chest for reasons she couldn’t explain.
That year, Curtis and Harold’s feud shook all of Harborton and the entire business world.
With the Lincolns‘ status, countless people and media outlets were watching. Any little thing that happened became international news.
When Curtis had a fallout with the Lincolns at 18 for Cynthia, Adriana was only 12, still grieving the fact that her adoptive parents had returned her to the orphanage..

“Adriana, no one can ever plant roots in Curtis’s heart because it belongs entirely to Cynthia,” Danielle warned, telling her not to get any ideas about Curtis.
“You’re into Curtis, right? And you’re upset because someone else is in his heart?” Adriana countered. “Since you know I’m only collaborating with Curtis, I have no feelings beyond that. So why are you telling me all this? Are you trying to humiliate yourself?”
Danielle frowned, her expression changing for a moment, then she laughed. “Natasha said you look all sweet and harmless, but you bite the hardest. I didn’t believe it, but now I see–you really are sharp- tongued.”
“You’re too kind,” Adriana said quietly, staring out the window.
“I’m telling you this because I don’t want you to fall for him. I know Curtis’s charm better than anyone…” Danielle said softly, but it felt like a knife stabbing Adriana’s heart.
Yeah, someone as extraordinary as Curtis–spend enough time with him, and anyone could fall for him.
The car pulled up at the rehab hospital.
Adriana followed Danielle out of the car.
“I arranged to meet Cynthia today. She’s curious about you, and I wanted to introduce you two,” Danielle said with a smile, leading Adriana inside.
Adriana frowned, unsure why Cynthia would want to see her.
In the rehab hospital, Cynthia was walking slowly, holding onto parallel bars. Her legs seemed unable to

“She was hit by a car in Moweland while trying to save Curtis. To protect her, Curtis publicly claimed she had died. In reality, she was in a deep coma for years and only woke up this year,” Danielle explained.
“Hey, Danielle.” Cynthia seemed familiar with Danielle. Seeing her, she returned to her wheelchair and smiled at Adriana.
Cynthia was considerably older than Curtis, likely nearing 40.
But time hadn’t left a mark on her face; her smile was gentle, and her features bore a faint resemblance to Adriana’s. She was clearly a soft, beautiful woman.
Her gaze landed on Adriana, and she returned a gentle smile. “You must be Adriana?”
Adriana nodded.
“Curtis didn’t allow me to meet you. I asked Danielle to bring you here. I wanted to see you myself,” Cynthia said, looking at Adriana. “You married Curtis?”
Adriana tensed, careful not to say anything wrong. This is the woman Curtis loves with all his heart… I need to tread carefully.
