Curtis’s hand stiffened for a moment, but he didn’t say anything. He took the desserts over to Adriana and handed them to her.

Nicole froze. “Curtis … what about mine?”

“Ms. Barton, you shouldn’t be eating street snacks. If you get a stomachache, I’m afraid Jeremy will blame me. You should go have some regular food instead,” Curtis said casually, suddenly feeling like her presence was really getting on his nerves.

“Adriana! Adriana, over here! I’ve got the strawberry bites you love.” The door of the little shop opened, and the owner stepped out carrying a bag, calling Adriana’s name.

Adriana froze. That voice… it sounds like the butler from that young man’s house back in Govendale.

Startled, she turned and looked at him, her voice trembling slightly. “Ernest?”

She vaguely remembered the voice, but after so many years, it had changed a bit, so she wasn’t sure.

Besides … back then, her eyes had been injured, and she couldn’t see. She had no idea what the butler, Ernest, looked like.

Curtis glanced at Ernest and subtly shook his head.

Ernest smiled, ignoring Adriana’s question. “Mr. Lincoln told me you loved these.”

Adriana blinked, then looked back at Curtis. So I’ve been overthinking it.

“Thank you, sir.” She accepted the strawberry bites, smiling happily.

Even when it came from a stranger, a kind gesture like this was heartwarming.

She was always someone who was easily satisfied.

Ernest turned back to his shop to continue his work. Nicole stood there, jealous and sulking. “Curtis, I want some too.”

Curtis didn’t even look at Nicole. He held Adriana’s hand as he moved forward. “There are other snacks over there. Want some? I’ll go get in line.”

Adriana shook her head. She had two servings of dessert balls–she wouldn’t be able to finish them.

“Curtis …” Nicole whined from behind. “Grandpa said you should stay with me. If you do this, I’ll tell him you’re bullying me.”

She started threatening Curtis.

But Curtis wasn’t the type to be threatened. As someone who dared to go against Harold, his mood swings were way worse than Nicole’s.

“Tom, take her back.” Curtis looked at Tom and instructed him to escort Nicole away.

Tom hesitated. “But Mr. Harold said-”

“Do whatever you wish. If she gets lost, it’s not my problem.” Curtis said, then pulled Adriana through a side door into the mall. He casually picked a clothing store, and in front of everyone, smoothly dragged Adriana into the fitting room.

It was seamless–even the store staff didn’t realize two people had just entered the fitting room.

Adriana was in Curtis’s arms, listening to his heartbeat, and her own heart raced.

She secretly glanced up at him. Is he some kind of secret agent? Doing something so sneaky felt completely natural for him.

Meanwhile, Nicole had chased them for ages but couldn’t find them. She stomped her foot in frustration.

“Ms. Barton … maybe we should head back,” Tom said helplessly, taking Nicole away.

“Adriana! Just you wait–I’m definitely going to Harold to report you!” Nicole ground her teeth in jealousy as she turned and left.

In the fitting room, Curtis calmly led Adriana out when he felt the time was right. He then casually picked out an outfit from the rack and handed it to the staff. “This one, and this one.”

The staff barely had time to process why there were suddenly two people in the fitting room, but she still smiled and nodded. “Okay, I’ll wrap these up for you.”

Adriana wanted to disappear into a hole in the floor. And yet Curtis acted as naturally as if nothing were happening.

After paying, Curtis handed the clothes to Adriana.

Adriana was stunned. “You bought these for me?”

She had expected him to just grab a few random pieces.

“You didn’t even check the size…” What if they didn’t fit? That would be such a waste.

“I did. They fit you perfectly.” Curtis looked at Adriana, then found a casual seating area, helping her open the dessert so she could eat first.

“How did you know my size?” Adriana asked, surprised.

Curtis glanced at her. “Take a guess.”

Adriana understood immediately, and her face flushed.

Sometimes, he can be so irritating when he’s acting all serious!
