Adriana figured she had built up too much disappointment toward Matthew.

When she loved him, she had truly loved him. But now… thinking of him no longer stirred anything inside
her.
Danielle arrived at Haldoria Airport with Nicole.
“Daniella, do you think Adriana will cooperate and go to the hospital for a check–up?” Nicole asked nervously.
“Hmph. If she refuses, we’ll make her go. Even if she really is pregnant … we have to figure out how to get rid of it. Otherwise… Curtis won’t divorce her before the baby is born.” Danielle’s voice was cold.
She knew Curtis wouldn’t marry her, but she must make sure he married ‘Nicole. The Bartons had to secure their alliance with the Lincolns.
She wanted the Bartons to get the maximum benefit.
Adriana, drying her hair, went downstairs and noticed Eva hadn’t returned.
So… who made lunch?
Curtis?
A surge of curiosity and excitement drove her to the kitchen, and sure enough, the lunch was Curtis’s handiwork; the eggshells were still in the trash.
She grabbed the meal from the warming tray, genuinely surprised. She had never imagined Curtis would cook.
She had thought … a CEO of his wealth and status would never touch a stove.
“Ding.” Her phone buzzed.
It was the flight attendant from last night.
“Hello, Ms. Xander. Are you feeling better today?” The message was surprisingly considerate.
“Much better, thank you,” Adriana replied.
“I have a few days off here in Haldoria, I don’t know the city well and don’t have any friends. Would you like to be friends, Ms. Xander?” Yolanda’s intentions were clear–her real target was Curtis.
But after adding Curtis on social media last night, he hadn’t accepted her friend request.
So Yolanda decided on a detour. She would get close to Adriana, understand her relationship with Curtis, and only then make her move.
Adriana blinked at the word “friends.”

Finished
Growing up as an orphan and with a naturally withdrawn personality, she had never really had friends.
In college, she had been bullied by Mia and Rufus and their crew. No one dared cross them, so no one openly socialized with Adriana.
Later, Matthew restricted her friendships further, leaving her even more isolated.
So the concept of friendship was almost foreign to Adriana.
“I’m sorry. I don’t really know what’s fun to do in Haldoria. I’m only here for school,” Adriana said honestly. She was just a small–town orphan, not a local.
“That’s fine. Let’s just follow the online guides and explore together.” Yolanda was confident, knowing exactly what she wanted and clear about her goal.
“Okay.” Adriana didn’t refuse further. She knew Yolanda was interested in Curtis and that her approach had a purpose, but she admired her boldness.
Ding–dong. The doorbell rang.
Adriana went to open it and found Belinda standing there.
Belinda looked cheerful and carried two small cakes.
“Hey, Adriana.” Belinda didn’t seem as hostile as before.
She handed Adriana a little cake.
“Thanks.” Adriana felt a little flattered, glancing at the clock. Today was Friday. “Are you off today?”
“No classes this afternoon.” Belinda peeked into the living room. “Curtis isn’t home, right?”
Adriana nodded.
Belinda visibly relaxed and stepped inside. “Where are you going later? Come shopping with me.”
Adriana was surprised, staring at Belinda. She didn’t know what Belinda was up to–she clearly didn’t like her.
But as a teenage girl, Belinda wasn’t that complicated. Her face and eyes were pure, her emotions clear. “Don’t get me wrong. I still don’t like you, it’s just … ” Belinda pouted, slightly aggrieved. “I don’t have friends at school, and no one wants to go shopping with me,
Adriana suddenly felt a pang of sympathy for the girl
Her father was a mystery, while her mother had been in a coma for years and had only recently woken, but Belinda didn’t even know. Since her teens, Curtis had left her in Eva’s care.

Although Curtis treated Belinda well, providing the best food and clothing, as Belinda said, he wasn’t her real uncle. Being a dependent left her feeling insecure and lacking confidence.
In some ways, Belinda and Adriana were similar–only Belinda had been luckier, because she had Curtis.
