Chapter 99 Hold Your Head Up
Irene frowned. “You seem to have serious issues with your great–nephew.”
The man’s face darkened, but he said nothing.

Curtis wasn’t home, so Belinda had snuck back again.
After spending some time with Adriana, Belinda had grown very fond of her. Especially since she didn’t have many friends at school, whenever she felt wronged, she just wanted to come back and talk to Adriana.
She used to think Danielle was nice because she had stood up for her a few times. Since Cynthia was gone, she’d never really experienced genuine care from anyone else, so she naturally saw Danielle as a good
person.
But after these past few days, she genuinely thought Adriana was awesome.
“Gosh, why are you back again? Mr. Lincoln said you’re not supposed to come back and disturb Mrs. Lincoln,” Eva said quietly at the door, looking uncomfortable.
Belinda took a peek inside, pouting. When she saw Adriana, she jumped with excitement. “Adriana!”
Adriana sipped her water and coughed lightly. She just won’t leave me alone, huh? “Eva, let her come in.”
Belinda happily stepped into the living room, hugging Adriana’s arm. “Adriana, let’s go shopping!”
“No, thank you. I already have plans with a friend. We’re going to the beach,” Adriana said, refusing outright.
Belinda’s eyes lit up. “Then take me with you!”
Adriana glanced at the clock. “It’s Friday. You had classes this morning. Why did you run back?”
Belinda looked a little dejected, sitting down sadly. “I don’t want to go to school.”
Kids usually hate school when something bad happens there.
Adriana didn’t scold her but sat down beside her. “What’s wrong? Did someone at school bully you?”
Belinda shook her head, keeping her eyes down.
“Aren’t we friends?” Adriana asked.
Belinda’s nose twitched, and she looked up at Adrian. “They said I’m… a burden. They said I’m Thick- skinned, and even though my mom’s dead, I still cling to Curtis like a vampire. Curtis is already married now, and nobody wants me …”
Adriana felt a pang in her chest. Belinda’s situation really was a lot like hers.
Adriana couldn’t understand why Cynthia hadn’t told Belinda that she was actually alive. Why let a child live in pain?

“But didn’t you say your mom wasn’t dead?” Adriana asked gently, testing the waters.
Belinda sniffed. “I only said that to annoy you. If my mom were alive, she would’ve contacted me…

She muttered softly, then continued. “I don’t want to go to school anymore. I want to start working early. I don’t want to rely on Curtis’s money…
She wanted independence. She wanted out of this environment.
“Do you know why I chose to be with Curtis, even if it meant being scolded or hated?” Adriana asked, looking at Belinda.
“For money?” Belinda had always assumed Adriana was materialistic.
Adriana smiled. “Because he promised to pay for my studying abroad. I knew that, with my background, education was the only way to change my social circle.”
Belinda was quiet, saying nothing.
“Finish your schooling first. Don’t even think about leaving Curtis until you’re fully capable of standing on your own. You’re lucky that you met Curtis when you had nobody to rely on. You shouldn’t push away people who are nice to you. People talk because they’re jealous and want to ruin you.”
Adriana looked at Belinda and spoke again. “Besides, we’re orphans. We don’t have parents or a family. If someone offers us support, it’s a gift. Don’t put yourself down or act all high and mighty.
“When opportunities come, you climb. How many people truly reach the top relying only on themselves?
“You need skills, but you also need someone to give you a hand. That’s how you really make it.”
Belinda nodded. “I understand…
