is not yours.” I said to her. “He is just a man who forgot his place. And you are just a quest who overstayed her welcome”
belia lunged at me, but i did not back away. I simply watched her with ice in my veins. She pulled back, her chest heaving. She looked at the hallway where Julian had disappeared, then at the guards who were now standing just inside the dining room. They were waiting for my next word. They were loyal to the name on the deed, and that name was mine and Julians.
“You have ten minutes,” I told her, my eyes never leaving hers. “Take whatever you brought with you. Do not touch anything that does not have your name on it. If you try to take one piece of jewelry or one heirloom, I will have the police escort you to the station myself.”
She tried to laugh, but it died in her throat. She looked at the guards, then back at me, her eyes wet with
rage
“Security,” I called. “Drag this woman out of my house now!”

Kicked Out
I drove across the city in a daze, the neon lights of Manhattan blurring into long streaks of color against my windshield My mind kept returning to the look on Katia’s face in the dining room, the ice, the way she had stood there with her hand on her stomach, and the finality in her voice when she ordered me out
I pulled into Zane’s driveway and slammed my car door, my legs feeling heavy as I walked up to his front door. I pounded on the wood until he finally cracked it open, blinking sleepily at me with a half-empty glass in his hand.
“I’ve been kicked out,” I said, my voice sounding rough to my own ears.
Zane leaned against the doorframe, not even blinking at the sight of me standing on his porch at nearly midnight. “Kicked out where? It’s your mansion, Julian. The deed has your name on it, unless the city decided to rezone it as a public park while I was sleeping. Did you get into a fight with the staff?”
“My own house,” I repeated, ignoring the sarcasm. “Katia showed up with a suitcase and told me to get the hell out. And she meant it. She didn’t look like she was joking, and she didn’t look like she wanted an apology. She looked like she was reclaiming territory.”
Zane stood aside and gestured for me to come in, his expression shifting from amusement to something slightly more alert. He shut the door behind me and gestured toward the living room.
“I’m guessing she finally put the pieces together. She found out she’s your wife, and now she’s out for blood. I did warn you about a year ago that this was going to end with you on someone’s front porch. You thought you were the smartest guy in the room, but you forgot that Katia is the only one who actually knows how to play the game better than you do.”
I walked into his living room and dropped onto his couch, rubbing my hands over my face. I nodded. “I don’t know how much she knows. I don’t know what she’s seen or who she talked to, but for her to have the guts to walk into my house and kick me out and kick her sister out right behind me means she knows everything. Every single detail. She moved with such confidence that it felt like she had been planning this moment for weeks. She even had security there, waiting for her command.”
Zane grabbed a beer from the counter and tossed it to me. “If she knows everything, you’re in real trouble. You’re not just talking about a wife who is mad because you hid your identity. You’re talking about a woman who is likely looking at your office chair and wondering how fast she can get your name off the door. Have you thought about the fact that she might just decide to take over as the CEO and leave you with nothing but your shares and a very expensive divorce lawyer? She has the resources, she has the connections, and now she has the motive.”
“I fucked up, Zane. I really did,” I admitted, staring at the label of the beer. “I tried to call her all day. I wanted to tell her the truth before she heard it from someone else, but she never picked up. She wouldn’t listen. She didn’t want to hear anything I had to say, and I don’t blame her. I let Delia stay there for two years. I let her play the role of my wife while I was busy trying to be someone else for Katia. It was all a disaster waiting to happen.”

Tm giving you the truth, man. It’s a good thing Katia kicked you out. She did you a favor. She saved you from yourself, and she saved you from Delia. But I’ve got some bad news for you-you’re going to need to look for a place to stay. You can’t crash here. My girlfriend is coming over tomorrow morning, and she doesn’t exactly like having houseguests, especially ones who are currently dodging a divorce war. This place is going to be a no-go zone.”
I looked at him, completely caught off guard. “Wait, you have a girlfriend? Since when do you do the whole girlfriend thing? And who is she? I thought you were strictly focused on the expansion deal for the next six months. You told me you didn’t have time for a drink, let alone a relationship.”
Zane grinned, looking far too pleased with himself. “Yep. It’s Sam.”
I stopped mid-sip, my heart sinking into my stomach as I stared at him. “Wait. Don’t tell me. Don’t you dare tell me that you’ve been sleeping with Sam, Katia’s right-hand woman, and you told her every single thing about my marriage to Katia? Is that how Katia found out? Is that where the envelope came from? Did you trade my secrets for a night in her bed?”
Zane leaned back, put his feet up on the coffee table, and reached for another beer, looking entirely unbothered by the fact that he might have just handed Katia the keys to my ruin. He took a long drink, his eyes gleaming with a mix of mischief and genuine indifference.
“Nope,” he said with a lazy shrug. “We don’t talk business. We just fuck.”
I stared at him, the silence in the room growing until it felt heavy.
“You don’t talk business?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper. “Zane, she works for my wife, the woman who just threw me out. How can you not talk business? Do you have any idea what she could be doing might now? She could be feeding Katia every single thing we have ever discussed in the office. She could be the reason Katia knew exactly when to show up at that house.”
Zane didn’t even flinch. He just kept looking at the ceiling, looking like he was thinking about his breakfast rather than the collapse of an empire. “You’re paranoid, Julian. You think everyone is out to get you because you’ve spent two years lying to your wife. It’s a simple case of cause and effect. Maybe she didn’t sell her anything. Maybe Katia is just smarter than you. Did that ever cross your mind? Maybe you don’t need a mole to figure out you’re a fool.”
1) am not a fool,” I growled, standing up and walking over to the window. The city looked vast, uncaring, completely out of my hands. “I am a man who made a series of bad choices based on the fear that I
