My Accidental Billionaire Husband (Katia and Julian) novel Chapter 389

The Signature

Delia’s POV

I sat in my office after Noah left and stared at the empty doorway for a long time.

Married.

The word sat in my head like a key that might open every door that had slammed shut on me over the past weeks. Delia Vesper. The name had weight. It had history. It belonged to a family that was about to step into the light with enough money and mystery to make the entire city pay attention. Once the papers were signed, I would walk into rooms that had started turning me away. I would sit at tables where people had begun to look through me. The headlines that still called me the woman who claimed a false marriage would have to make room for a new title.

I had survived Julian Windsor’s indifference for two years. I knew how to live beside a man who did not want me. I knew how to smile for cameras while the private reality stayed cold. Noah Vesper was not even as cold as Julian had been. Julian had perfected silence and distance until it became a wall. Noah was sharper, more direct with his dislike, but that almost made him easier. I could see the edges. I could work around them. A Julian wannabe. That was all he was. I had handled the original. I could handle the

copy.

I told myself this until the knot in my stomach loosened enough for me to breathe normally again.

A knock sounded at the door. Adrian stepped inside without waiting for an answer.

“Mr. Vesper is waiting for you,” he said. “It is time to register the marriage.”

I stood at once. My hands smoothed the front of my dress out of habit. I picked up my bag and followed Adrian to the elevator without speaking. The ride to the top floor felt short. Too short. I used the seconds to settle my face into something calm. I had done this before. Different man. Same performance.

Noah’s office door was open. He stood behind the desk with a single folder in front of him and a small black box beside it. He did not look up when I entered. Adrian closed the door and left us alone.

“Sit,” Noah said.

I sat.

He pushed the folder across the desk.

“Read it. Sign where the tabs are. Initial every page.”

I opened the folder. The language was dense and one-sided. Protections for him. Restrictions for me. No claim on company assets. No public statements without approval. A quiet dissolution clause that could be triggered after the gala if he chose. I read every line anyway. My pen moved across the signature blocks with a steady hand that did not match the tightness in my chest. 1

When I finished, I closed the folder and set the pen down.

Noah opened the black box. Inside lay a simple platinum band. No diamonds. No engraving I could see He picked it up and held it out across the desk between two fingers.

“Take it.”

I reached for the ring. He did not move to put it on my finger. He simply waited until I took it from his hand and slipped it onto my own. The metal felt cold and plain. I stared at it for a second longer than

should have.

“There will be no ceremony,” Noah said. “This signing is enough. The lawyer will file the papers today By tonight it will be legal. You will not speak to anyone about it until I decide the timing. Clear?”

“Clear.”

He watched me with the same assessing look he had worn the day he ordered the marriage.

“Do not mistake this for anything it is not,” he said. “I told you already. I do not like you. I am doing this because my father required it. You will not build fantasies around a last name. You will not expect warmth or attention or any version of a real marriage. You will smile when the cameras appear, and you will stay silent when I tell you to stay silent. If you start performing the role of a woman who believes she is wanted, I will end this arrangement the same day. Do you understand me?”

The words landed with the same flat force he always used. I kept my face still.

“I understand.”

“Say it back to me.”

“You do not like me. This is happening because your father ordered it. I will not build fantasies around it. I will follow the rules you set.”

Noah nodded once.

“Good. You may go. Finish the final gala details. I want the complete run-of-show on my desk by the end of the day.”

I stood. The ring sat on my finger like a reminder that was already beginning to feel heavy. I walked to the door without looking back. Behind me I heard the soft sound of the folder closing and the black box shutting.

In the elevator I looked down at my hand. The band was simple enough to pass for ordinary. No one would look at it and see a love story. They would see a legal fact. That was enough. It had to be enough.

I returned to my office and sat behind the desk again. The guest list was still open on the screen. Windsor, Julian, and Katia. Main table. The same placement that had felt like a punishment days ago now sat under a different light. I would walk into that room as Delia Vesper. The name would open the path even if the man attached to it could barely stand the sight of me.

I had lived with worse indifference. I had smiled through colder silences. Noah Vesper could keep his dislike. He could keep his distance and his sharp instructions and his refusal to place a ring on my

finger himself. I would take the name and the access and the public face that came with it. I would stand at the entrance of the gala and greet the Windsors with a smile that cost me nothing they could see

Julian had taught me how to survive a man who did not want me.

Noah would learn that I already knew the lesson.

I opened the run-of-show document and began checking every line again. Timing. Entrances. Media positions. My name listed beside the greeting protocol. Mrs. Noah Vesper. The words looked strange and solid at the same time.

I worked until the sky outside the window turned dark. I sent the final file to Noah’s desk without a message. Then I sat back and looked at the ring one more time.

It was not affection. It was not rescue. It was a door. And I had already stepped through it.
