Meanwhile, Hilary stood near the entrance, smoothing down her dress for what felt like the hundredth time, her eyes fixed on the ballroom doors.
She was waiting.
Waiting for her mentor.
Darrel looked just as nervous, rubbing his palms together.
“Theron… if this blows up later, you’ve gotta back me up. At the very least, stop her from killing me. I’d rather not leave this place on a stretcher.”
Theron lazily swirled the wine in his glass.
“And if you actually end up with her someday, you still expect me to protect you
“Obviously not.” Darrel let out an awkward laugh. “That’d make you the world’s worst third wheel.”
Theron gave him a flat look.
“You’re getting ahead of yourself. There’s no ‘someday.””
Just then, someone in the crowd shouted-
“She’s here! The Commander of Obsidian is here!”
Every conversation in the room died instantly.
All eyes turned toward the entrance.
Then Scarlett appeared beneath the glow of the chandelier lights.
Theron’s gaze sharpened slightly.
There was something strangely familiar about her.
At the same time, Theo nearly lit up with excitement.
“Master!” Hilary cried out.
Her voice cracked as she hurried forward. Stopping in front of Scarlett, she bowed deeply without hesitation,
“Master, please accept me.”
A servant quickly handed her a cup of wine, which she respectfully offered with both hands.
“Please.”
Once Scarlett drank it, the ceremony would be complete. From that moment on, Hilary would officially become her disciple.
The thought alone made her heart race.
Scarlett had originally intended to test her a little longer, but seeing the sincerity in Hilary’s eyes-and remembering it was her birthday tonight-she decided against it.
She accepted the wine and took a sip.
Then she reached down and helped Hilary to her feet.
“From today on, you’re under my guidance.”

Hilary’s eyes immediately turned red with emotion.
“Yes, Master!”
“I came on short notice,” Scarlett said. “I only had time to prepare a birthday gift. I didn’t bring anything for the ceremony itself.

Hilary shook her head so fast it was almost frantic.
“That doesn’t matter! You accepting me is already the best gift I could ask for!”
Scarlett’s tone remained calm.
“There should still be something. Too many people are watching.”
“I really don’t need-”
“I’ve already decided,” Scarlett interrupted smoothly. “Come to the Lystra Military Division tomorrow. You’ll understand then.”
Hilary immediately nodded.
“Okay, Master!”
At that moment, the Nation Leader approached with Evander beside him.
“You’re still wearing that mask at an event like this?” the old man asked helplessly.
Scarlett lightly touched the edge of it.
“I prefer not to be recognized everywhere I go.”
“Fine, forget the mask.” He waved his hand dismissively before gesturing toward Theron. “Let’s talk about my grandson first.”
Scarlett instantly felt a headache coming on.
Not this again.
The Nation Leader motioned Theron over.
Darrel raised his wine glass with a grin.
“Come on, Theron.”
Theron stepped forward slowly, his eyes never leaving Scarlett.
Familiar.
Everything about her felt familiar.
Evander watched from the sidelines, thoroughly entertained.
Apparently, the old man still had no idea that his precious grandson had already brought this girl home before.
At the moment, Evander was the only one who knew the truth.
Interesting.
Leaning back comfortably in his chair, he prepared himself for the show.
