He’s hunting you
Katia’s POV
Gail gaped at me. Her mouth literally tell open. She looked like I had just told her the meon was made of cheese “Julian! My brother? The man who has the emotional range of a granite countertop?”
“Tell me about it,” I said, my face burning. I decided to go all in. If I was going to be judged, I might as well give her the full evidence. “The hand your brother posted on his 1*******m? The one that had the internet in a frenzy while he was supposed to be on his honeymoon? That was mine.”
Gail froze, her wine glass halfway to her lips. “What?”
“He was with me in France,” I confessed, the words feeling like a lead weight lifting off my chest. “The day he was supposed to be spending time with my sister on their wedding night… Julian was with me. I don’t know how he ended up in ffiat village or how he found that specific bar, but we met. We stayed up all night. Nothing happened in France, Gail, I swear. We just talked. It was just… a connection I didn’t expect.”
Gail put her glass down with a trembling hand. “My brother skipped his wedding night to talk to you in a foreign country? Julian? The man who follows rules like they’re holy scripture?”
“And then came Vegas,” I continue, my voice shaking. “We ran into each other at a club. Things got out of hand. We were in a hallway, away from the noise, and Gail… we kissed. And I don’t mean a polite, ‘nice to see you‘ kiss. I mean a tongue–thrusting, wall–pinning, world–ending kiss.”
“Ewww!” Gail groaned, covering her ears like a teenager. “I don’t want to hear about my brother’s tongue! That is a mental image I will never be able to unsee. That is a crime against humanity.”
“We almost fucked, Gail,” I said, my voice dropping to a raw, jagged edge. “If he hadn’t left, or if I hadn’t found a shred of sanity… it would have happened. Right there in the hotel.”
Gail went completely still. The humor vanished from her face. She looked at me, then she looked at Aiden, who was happily coloring a sun in his book, oblivious to the fact that his mother was confessing to a potential affair with the most powerful man in the city.
“You like him?” Gail asked, her voice soft now, devoid of judgment.

Gail sighed, leaning back in her chair and staring at the ceiling. “This is a disaster. A total, beautiful, Windsor–sized disaster. You realize Julian is obsessed, right? He doesn’t do ‘spontaneous.‘ He doesn’t do ‘accidental.‘ If he was in France, he was there for a reason. If he was in Vegas, he was there for a reason. He’s hunting you, Katia.”
“I can’t let him catch me,” I whispered, my voice trembling as I glanced at Aiden. “I have my own life to protect, Gail. If Julian keeps pushing into my space, if he starts digging into my business or my personal affairs, it’s going to get messy. I can’t have a man like him looking too closely at me.”
Gail reached across the table, squeezing my hand. “Katia, listen to me. My brother is a man who gets what he wants. Always. He’s cold, he’s relentless, and he’s never satisfied with what he has. But now, he’s looking at you. If he decides to fixate on his wife’s sister, it means he doesn’t like Delia, and he will never touch her; he will burn Delia and the entire Kensington alliance to the ground just to satisfy that impulse. He doesn’t care about the collateral damage, Katia. He never has.”
