My Alpha Only Ever Said Fine. novel Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Just before I left for the Secret Realm, the annual Moon Celebration Ball came around.

The elders agreed to let me leave the Blood Moon Pack and enter the Wasteland Trial under

one condition.

I had to attend the ceremony with my Alpha.

I had no choice but to call Asher.

“The elders want you at the Moon Celebration Ball with me tonight. Are you free?”

His end was deafening-the chaos practically stabbing at my eardrums.

It took him five minutes to find somewhere quiet.

“Alright, go ahead.”

I pressed my lips together before asking, “Where are you right now?”

“I’m at the Moon Celebration show with Joy.” He paused.

“She’s been looking forward to this for months. Set alarms and all that, just to snag tickets.”

“Her friend bailed last minute, so I filled in.”

I smiled faintly. “I was just asking.”

“You don’t need to explain yourself to me.”

I heard his breathing get heavier on the other end.

I repeated what I’d said earlier about the ball.

No answer. He just hung up.

That evening, I stood at the entrance of the banquet hall waiting for Asher.

An hour passed. No sign of him.

The wind had picked up, sending a fine drizzle slanting through the open corridors.

It soaked the cuffs of my pants, the damp fabric clinging cold and uncomfortable against my

skin.

I had no choice but to go back inside and change clothes first.

But when I came out again, Asher was already there-as Joy’s date.

“Luna Patricia, over here!” Joy waved at me, all enthusiasm.

I looked up and met the gazes of the gathered Alphas and Lunas from every pack.

I had no intention of walking straight into humiliation.

Just as I turned to leave, Blood Moon’s High Elder Theodore pushed me toward Asher.

“Your Alpha’s right here.”

Then he looked at Asher, his deep voice heavy with authority.

“Your Luna’s here. Aren’t you going to ask her for the first dance?”

Joy immediately looped her arm through Asher’s and smiled brightly.

“He’s my dance partner.”

Asher gave a quiet hum of agreement.

Theodore’s gaze shifted between the three of us.

Then, without asking, he took my hand and placed it firmly on Asher’s arm.

He smiled at Joy. “Simple enough. I’ll find you a noble werewolf to dance with. I guarantee

he’ll be to your liking.”

I quietly pulled my hand back, resentment coiling in my chest.

I was the one who invited him first.

Even if he didn’t want to be my partner, he should’ve told me beforehand.

Instead of making me wait there like an idiot.

Asher stared at the spot where my hand had been resting for a few seconds.

Then he finally spoke, “Plenty of werewolves are after Joy.”

“She asked me to be her date so I could help fend off the ones who can’t take a hint.”

“Everyone knows you’re my Luna. No one would dare cross a line with you.”

“But she’s never been in a relationship-she can’t see through what those wolves are really

after.”

“As Alpha of this pack, it’s my duty to protect her.”

Instantly, countless eyes were on me. Some curious. Some mocking. Others filled with pity.

Once again, he chose Joy without hesitation.

The first time, it nearly got me killed.

This time, he left me humiliated in front of everyone.

The dance partner Theodore found for Joy backed out under the sheer pressure of Asher’s

intimidating stare.

I sat alone in the corner, watching my Alpha dance gracefully with Joy across the ballroom

floor.

Joy smiled so brilliantly it was as if she’d be replacing me as Blood Moon Luna any second

now.

I was just about to slip away quietly when the final event of the night stopped me cold.

“Truth Exchange.”

The moment Joy stepped onto the stage, the hall noticeably fell silent.

Must’ve been the infamous trap incident from years ago, crossing everyone’s mind.

People exchanged uneasy looks while sneaking glances at me.

Each look made me more uncomfortable.

And with them came that old, buried ache-the one I thought I’d long forgotten.
