Rachel’s body stiffened even more as she explained, “That’s because there were things I wanted to ask Katherine privately.”

“You had to go onto the Ferris wheel to ask?”

Rachel knew the moment Lucas questioned her like this, he was already suspicious.

She pressed her lips together, eyes reddening. “Lucas, what are you suspecting? You know I was in a bad mood back then. I-”

“Katherine’s injury was caused by a strong impact. You two fought.” Lucas didn’t want to watch her cry and cut straight to the point.

Rachel admitted, “Yes. She tried to push me off, so I had no choice but to fight back. We struggled.”

“Give me the details.”

Lucas clearly had no intention of letting her off tonight.

His attitude frightened Rachel.

After a brief silence, Rachel wiped her tears and began recounting what happened on the Ferris wheel.

She described how Katherine suspected her, how Katherine supposedly held a grudge over Ivy, and how their conflict escalated into a fight while she desperately defended herself.

Lucas immediately heard the flaw in her story.

“You’re saying Katherine hated you over Ivy and wanted to kill you? She’d risk becoming a murderer for a child she’d only known for a few days? Does that sound reasonable to you?”

Lucas didn’t believe Katherine would kill someone over a child unrelated to her.

Tears slipped down Rachel’s face. “Lucas, you don’t believe me?”

“But that’s exactly what happened! Have you forgotten how she once hung me up and tortured me? She hates me-what wouldn’t she do?”

Rachel looked devastated by his disbelief. “Lucas, why won’t you believe me? You know I never lie.”

Lucas wasn’t buying it anymore.

“Her arm was injured. The dislocation was so severe that she couldn’t even lift it when she was in danger. On the Ferris wheel, she still tried her best to pull you back. Rachel, tell me- does that sound like someone trying to kill you?

“I… That’s because she changed her mind at the last second. Lucas, I was hanging outside the gondola, barely holding on. If I survived-if I didn’t fall or the fall didn’t kill me–I would’ve exposed her for trying to murder me. But if she pulled me back, everyone would believe her instead, just like you do now. Lucas, that was her setup to make herself look like the victim.”

As Rachel spoke, she looked utterly wronged, tears falling like a broken string of pearls.

Lucas’s brows drew together tightly.

“Lucas, I’m the victim here. Why? Why did you come here in the middle of the night just to interrogate me like this? Did Katherine say something to you? You believe her but not me?”
