The night before, she had gone back to look for her phone but found nothing. She didn’t know if someone had already picked it up.

Afraid Rachel might stir up more trouble, Katherine reported everything that happened on the Ferris wheel to the police, recounting every detail.

She wasn’t about to accept a murder accusation pinned on her.

As she was about to leave, the officer who handled Ivy’s kidnapping case stopped her. One kidnapper was still at large, and there were unresolved doubts, so the case hadn’t been closed.

The officer asked Katherine about some details, and Katherine told him Ivy had remembered whose voice she heard that night.

It was Rachel’s.

After hearing this, the officer hesitated briefly and said they would investigate further.

Katherine knew they were experienced investigators-they understood this wasn’t an ordinary kidnapping.

They simply didn’t have evidence proving Rachel’s involvement yet.

Rachel belonged to the Harts family, powerful and influential. They’d already arrested her once; without solid proof, they couldn’t detain her again.

Katherine returned home. The wreckage downstairs still hadn’t been cleaned up. She found a backup phone and called a renovation company Every window downstairs needed to be replaced.

After arranging everything, Katherine went upstairs, changed clothes, and headed out to pick up Julian and Ethan.

That morning, she’d sent the boys to Marsh’s place. What happened last night still haunted her, and she felt safer keeping the children there

Marsh owned an estate in Crestburg where all his people were stationed.

Forrest respectfully escorted Katherine inside. “Have a seat first. Julian and Ethan are in the back practicing shooting.”

“Don’t teach them too much of that. They’re still young. It’s dangerous.”

Forrest poured her a cup of coffee. “You don’t know how talented they are. The boss is teaching them personally, and our people are supervising. Nothing will happen.”

Katherine took a sip of water and glanced around. “Where is he?”

Forrest knew exactly whom she meant. “The boss came back furious last night. This morning, he took some people out again.”

Katherine didn’t ask further. “By the way, when are you all going back? Did he say?”

“Didn’t the boss tell you?”

“Hm?”

“He came this time to take you back with him.”

“So you’re waiting to leave with me?”

“Yeah.”

Katherine didn’t know when she would return. The divorce still hadn’t been finalized, and the longer she stayed here, the more entangled she became with Lucas-just like now.

And the mastermind behind Ivy’s kidnapping still hadn’t been caught. She wasn’t willing to leave like this.

Katherine’s eyes flickered slightly. She lowered Her gaze before looking up again. “Tell him not to wait for me. I still need to stay here for a while. I don’t know how long.”

“You’ll have to tell him yourself. You know his temper. If someone else says that, he’ll definitely lose it.”

Katherine smiled faintly. His temper really was terrible. “Alright.”

Julian and Ethan ran out from inside. “Mommy!

They were still wearing protective gear, sweat dampening their hair. Katherine wiped their foreheads with tissues. “Look at you two, sweating so much.”

“Mommy, we’re not playing. We’re learning shooting so we can protect you and Ivy,” Ethan said proudly.

Katherine looked at the two little boys with warmth in her eyes. “Okay, Ivy and I will rely on you two to protect us from now on.”

Katherine stood up, preparing to take them home. “When he comes back, tell him I already left with them.”
