“If it’s her fault, then what? Will you make her kneel in front of me and apologize?” Katherine pressed aggressively.

She expected him to get angry at her words, but he didn’t. He only stared at her with dark, steady eyes and said, “I’ll give you an answer.

“An answer? Lucas, what explanation can possibly make up for the humiliation of being forced to kneel last night?”

Katherine was a proud person, yet he had kicked her down onto her knees in front of Rachel -the very woman who ruined her and tried to kill her daughter. What explanation could ever make that right?

Katherine let out a short laugh, sharp with mockery.

“No matter what, we’ll talk after the truth comes out.”

Lucas took out Katherine’s phone and handed it to her. “It’s yours.”

Katherine stared at the phone in surprise. Lucas found it?

She quickly took it and tried to check whether the evidence was still there, only to realize it wouldn’t turn on. The battery was probably dead

Katherine took a deep breath, put the phone away, then turned and slammed her car door before driving off.

Lucas’s eyes turned dark as he watched the direction she had come from. If he remembered correctly, that was Marsh’s residence in Crestburg.

So while I’ve been searching everywhere for her, she’s been staying at Marsh’s place the entire time.

A chill instantly spread through Lucas. As he got into his car, Sarah called him. Her anxious voice came through the phone. “Lucas, Rachel is missing. The Harts can’t find her anywhere -they’re panicking. Please help look for her.”

“She’s still throwing a tantrum?”

“How could something this serious be a tantrum Something must’ve happened. Please help find her. I’ve felt uneasy all morning, like something’s wrong.”

Lucas suddenly remembered Rachel’s terrified cries from earlier that morning. Only then did he realize this might not be another act-something might’ve truly happened to her.

Katherine didn’t take Julian and Ethan home. Instead, she went to the hospital to stay with Ivy.

Ivy had been worried sick. The little girl buried herself in Katherine’s arms and cried endlessly, leaving tear stains and snot marks all over Katherine’s clothes.

Ivy cried so hard that even Julian and Ethan-who had been proudly declaring earlier that they’d protect everyone-started looking like they might cry too.

Katherine and Megan barely had time to wipe away tears before Megan brought over three basins and handed one to each child to cry into.

Seeing the scene, Katherine’s anger from earlier faded, and she burst out laughing.

Ivy was crying her heart out, yet her godmother wasn’t comforting her and even gave her a basin, and her mother wasn’t comforting her either-she was laughing.

Ivy blinked her wide eyes in disbelief, unable to understand how adults could be so heartless.

She immediately felt even sadder, tears pouring down faster.

Katherine hadn’t intended to laugh-her mood was terrible-but the sight of the three kids each holding a basin completely broke her composure.

Katherine and Megan ended up laughing together uncontrollably.

Ivy’s little head buzzed from crying so hard.

She cried harder while they laughed louder.

Ivy tossed the basin aside, wrinkled her nose, lifted her chin, and protested fiercely in her childish voice, “Mommy, Megan, stop laughing. This is a very sad situation.”

Seeing the little girl getting angry, Katherine and Megan pressed their lips together. “Alright, alright, no more crying,” Katherine said, opening her arms and pulling Ivy into a hug.

“I’m fine, see?”

Ivy raised her small hand and gently touched Katherine’s face. The swelling had mostly gone down, but Ivy still noticed faint marks.
