Lucas frowned. “When did you get back?”

“At noon.”

Lucian walked straight toward Katherine. She instinctively took a step back.

If she remembered right, this guy had a bad temper.

Katherine was stunned. She didn’t expect him to be this polite.

Did he finally grow up while he was abroad?

After greeting her, Lucian turned and stared coldly at Rachel. “Does the Grants owe your family a life or something?”

“The call even reached overseas, so I came back to see if your whole family was dead and you were the only one left. Why else would you be ating like my brother is the only person on earth who can save you?”

Lucas frowned, giving Lucian a warning look. “Lucian!”

“Am I wrong?” Lucian shot back without fear. “If you didn’t go save her today, wouldn’t she have died out there?”

That was the truth. If Lucas hadn’t gone, Rachel would still be lying outside. The Harts never would have found her. After a few days in the sun and wind, they would’ve found a corpse.

Behind them, Katherine quietly curled her lips in a faint smile.

This kid really knows how to talk. Why didn’t he come back sooner?

“Lucian, how can you talk like that?” Ursula and Quincy rushed over. Ursula had heard what he said and looked upset. “Rachel is your brother’s future wife. Your future sister-in-law. Is that how you talk to her?”

“Sister-in-law? Has my family agreed to that?” Lucian suddenly grabbed Katherine and pulled her to the front. “Are you all pretending she’s dead?”

Katherine winced slightly.

Does this kid have to use the word ‘dead’ in every sentence?

“You’re my sister-in-law. Say something. Don’t let them act like you’re a ghost.”

The Harts were left speechless. All of them looked at Katherine.

Katherine didn’t even know what to say. But at this moment, she had to accept that title.

He was backing her up. She couldn’t embarrass him now.

She lifted her chin. “Yeah. You guys think I’m dead or something?”

“You! You two-” Ursula opened her mouth, but couldn’t get the words out.

Lucian grinned. “This is my sister-in-law!”

Katherine wasn’t even sure why she was playing along with this kid’s antics.

Lucian raised an eyebrow at Rachel. “If I call you ‘sister-in-law, do you even dare to answer?”

Rachel looked like she was about to grind her teeth into dust. She turned to Lucas, tears streaming down her face. “They’re going too far..”

The icy vibe around Lucas seemed to melt a bit after Lucian’s interruption. He looked down at Rachel and said, “You just woke up. Stop talking and get some rest. We’ll deal with this later.”
