Lucas and Katherine’s marriage was something Gavin Grant hated from the start, but Elijah insisted on it. Lucas didn’t care either way.

Since Katherine’s dad had saved Elijah’s life, Gavin couldn’t say much and eventually agreed, even though he wasn’t happy about it.

Elijah walked out of the elevator leaning on George.

“Stop talking nonsense,” Sarah said, annoyed.

“Why not? Eight years ago, Gavin was already arguing with me about this. If he likes Rachel so much, he should’ve married her himself. Lucian is right!”

With Elijah backing him up, Lucian proudly ran over to his grandfather. “Grandpa, you’re the only one who makes sense.”

Sarah rolled her eyes. “Where does that leave me?”

Elijah sat on the couch. He glanced at Lucas, who hadn’t said a word, and snorted. “How are you going to handle this?”

“I haven’t decided yet.” Lucas stood up and left the Grant Estate.

Seeing his brother leave, Lucian didn’t want to hang around and be an eyesore either, so he followed him.

Katherine sat in Ivy’s ward. She had planned to show the evidence directly to Lucas. But

Lucian’s sudden appearance messed everything up. He ruined Rachel’s act, but he also threw a wrench in Katherine’s plans.

Katherine frowned and rubbed her aching temples.

Ivy was asleep. It was still early.

Marsh’s men were guarding the door. Katherine asked Megan to go out with her.

Katherine grabbed a bottle, poured a drink, and downed it in one go.

Megan quickly grabbed her hand. “What’s wrong with you? Are you upset because of Lucas?”

“Because of him?” Katherine smirked. “Is he worth it?

“He’s just an idiot. Why would I be upset over him?”

At the next booth over.

Lucian smirked and looked at the man sitting beside him, who looked ice-cold. “Are you worth it?”

Lucas’s face tightened as he glared at Lucian, but Lucian just kept grinning like a jerk.

Megan gave a nervous little laugh. “Then why are you out here drinking?”

Katherine could drink, but she rarely did.

“Because I’m annoyed.” Katherine turned to Megan. “I just don’t get it.”

“Get what?”

“I don’t get how someone can be so stupid.”

Lucian glanced at the “stupid” person next to him.

Lucas’s face turned even darker as Katherine kept going.

“Is his brain stuck in his ass? He doesn’t believe a word I say, but he believes everything Rachel tells him. And he keeps saying he doesn’t want a divorce. If we’re not divorcing, then I’m his wife. Why can’t he give his own wife a little bit of trust?”

“Okay, okay. Stop drinking,” Megan said, trying to take the bottle away.

Katherine had it rough five years ago, and even worse now. She got blamed every day and lived on edge. If she didn’t let it out, it would eat her alive.

“I’m not done,” Katherine said, sneering. “He says he still wants a child with me. With his brain? Any kid in that house would be bullied to death. With Rachel’s personality, unless the kid is hers, she’d treat them like garbage.”

Katherine gave a bitter smile.

Stupid. So damn stupid.

She really wanted to see Lucas’s face one day if he found out the woman he loved hurt the child he wanted so badly.

Would he regret it? Would he feel heartbroken? Would it tear him apart?

I hope it rips him apart. I hope it hurts him. I hope he drowns in regret.

Katherine grabbed her glass and finished it in one shot.

At the next booth, Lucian lit a cigarette and leaned closer to grumpy-looking Lucas. “What exactly did she say that you didn’t believe?”

Lucas pressed his lips into a thin line. His eyes were deep and unreadable.

Since he didn’t answer, Lucian kept talking. “You might not believe her, but I do. I trust my sister-in-law.”

Lucas glanced at him. “Why? Did she save your life?”

Lucian wasn’t close to Katherine. They hadn’t seen each other in five or six years.

But back at the Grant Estate, when he got in trouble, Katherine would always be the one to have his back.

Lucian felt like he was a good judge of character and he believed Katherine was better than Rachel.

The only bad thing she did was abort the baby back then. But could you blame her for that? What woman could handle losing her mom while her husband was out watching fireworks with his first love?
