Lucas frowned. Katherine’s words stabbed at him, leaving him deeply uncomfortable.

“You humiliated her, you hit her, and now you’re standing here making excuses to justify yourself, making it sound like you’re the one in the right. Katherine, this is who you are.”

Hearing the word “excuses” felt like a thorn in Katherine’s ear.

He dismissed Rachel’s cruelty and denied his own betrayal, pinning everything on her instead.

Katherine looked at them. These people even want to take my children back to the Grants.

When she saw Ivy, her head buzzed, and for a moment, she wondered if her eyes were playing tricks on her.

The little girl Lucas picked up at the airport was Ivy?

Ivy was crying hard, clearly frightened.

Seeing her, Lucas took a breath, reined in his anger, walked over, and crouched in front of her. “Why are you crying again?”

“Evil… She’s evil.”

Rachel’s heart leapt with joy. She walked over and said to Ivy, “Don’t be scared, sweetheart. That evil woman can’t hurt you.”

Through her tears, Ivy pointed at Rachel. “That evil woman said that the other lady had no background and had nothing to her name. She said her mommy and daddy were damned and short-lived, and she should go and be with them. She also said… she also said poor people’s lives are cheap. That’s why that lady hit her.”

Rachel was stunned. “I didn’t. You’re lying.”

Ivy hid behind Lucas, and seeing Rachel’s twisted expression, she cried even harder.

Lucas’s face darkened even more.

The child didn’t know anyone here. There was no reason for her to lie for Katherine and frame Rachel.

So Ivy couldn’t be lying.

“Lucas, believe me, I didn’t say all that… She’s framing me…”

“She doesn’t know you or Katherine. Why would she lie for Katherine? And the things she said, if she hadn’t heard them, could a child make them up?”

“I-I…” Rachel stood there, speechless.

Katherine finally snapped out of her panic at seeing Ivy here, just in time to catch Ivy blinking at her through tears.

This little clever thing.

Katherine didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Lucas glanced back at Katherine, standing there with a cold expression, and a flicker of guilt crossed his dark eyes.

In the end, Elijah stepped in and put an end to the chaos.

Rachel had spoken viciously, and Katherine had hit her. They were even.

Rachel sat on the couch with red eyes while Sarah comforted her.

Lucas glanced at Katherine, then at Ivy, trying to find some connection between the two, but saw nothing.

After crying, Ivy sat quietly on a chair. Fred walked in and said to Lucas, “Mr. Grant, we still can’t get through to the girl’s mother.”.

Of course, it wouldn’t go through. Katherine silently thanked herself for only charging her phone briefly, making a few unanswered calls before it died again.

Lucas felt the girl’s parents were terribly irresponsible.

They actually let such a young child wander around alone again and again.

They were just as irresponsible as Katherine had been back then, stubborn enough to abort the children.

Thinking of that, Lucas’s expression cooled further. His deep gaze sharpened as he looked at Katherine. “Her parents are just as irresponsible as you were back then.”

Katherine didn’t dare exchange any looks with Ivy. She stood there quietly, getting snapped at for no reason.

She shot him a cold glance, her eyes devoid of emotion. “What’s wrong with you? Why are you suddenly taking it out on me?”

“If you hadn’t aborted the children back then, they’d be about her age now.” Lucas’s voice was low, and beneath it was a concern he couldn’t hide.

He was still trying to fish for the truth about whether she had children.

Katherine frowned slightly. “You keep bringing up the children as if you loved them so much.”

“I never said I didn’t love them.”

A trace of mockery crossed Katherine’s face. “Lucas, don’t you know some things don’t need to be said out loud? What you do says enough.”

Lucas’s gaze sank again.

Ivy sat between the two of them, blinking blankly as she watched them argue back and forth.
