Marsh gave a low laugh, his voice deep and rough. “That’s the fourth favor you’ve asked from
Katherine forced a smile. “Can I skip the surprise?”
“No.”
His tone was low and slightly threatening. There was no room to argue.
She asked that question in vain.
Whatever. His memory was bad anyway. That “surprise” would probably be something random he’d forget in a few days.
“Just send me the address. I’m hanging up.”
After ending the call, Katherine walked to the window and looked down. The guards were still there.
She frowned and checked the time. Megan’s flight should have already taken off and would land around noon.
Katherine scheduled a time to pick Megan up.
Ding! A message came in.
“Eternal Antiquities. When you arrive, find Josh Swanson.”
That was quick.
She sent back an “OK” sticker.
If she remembered correctly, this was the biggest auction house in Crestburg. It dealt with jewelry, antiques, classic paintings, art, real estate, and more. She was best at antiques and paintings.
Katherine didn’t want to waste the morning. She needed to go out. But with Lucas’s men at the door, that wouldn’t be easy.
She thought for a bit, then looked at the window and opened it. She glanced down.
She was on the second floor, and there was a lawn below.
After some hesitation, she changed into light clothes, went downstairs, and made a simple

breakfast. She brought it to her two children’s room. They were still asleep.
Katherine placed the breakfast on the side, left anote, and didn’t wake them.
Today, she just needed to report to the auction house and get familiar with things. She would go early, return quickly, and then pick up Megan and discuss how to bring Ivy home.
Back in her room, she found a rope and tied one end to the bedpost. She tossed the other end out the window and looked down. After taking a deep breath, she climbed out smoothly.
Sneaking out of her own house felt ridiculous.
She landed safely, brushed off her hands, fixed her clothes, and left quickly.
Eternal Antiquities.
At the front desk. Katherine said politely, “Hi, I’m Cath. I’m here to see Mr. Swanson.”
“Do you have an appointment?”
‘No. Please call him and tell him Cath is here. He’ll meet me.”
The receptionist looked her up and down. Katherine was wearing a veil, which probably made her look suspicious.
But she always wore one at auction houses, so she didn’t take it off.
“Sorry. Please make an appointment first,” the receptionist replied with a polite smile.
“Tell him I’m Cath. I’m the new auctioneer. He’ll see me.”
At that moment, a woman nearby stopped and looked at her. “New auctioneer?”
Katherine turned toward the voice.
When she saw the woman, she was slightly surprised.
It was Chloe-her cousin.
Five years had passed. She never expected that this was how they would meet again.
The receptionist greeted Chloe respectfully. “Chloe, this lady says she’s the new auctioneer and wants to see Mr. Swanson.”
Chloe raised a brow and walked over in high heels. She looked Katherine up and down with

disdain. She sneered. “A new auctioneer? You? At least make your lie sound real. We’re not hiring. People are always trying to sneak in here. And you’re even wearing a veil. Planning to steal something? Hey, stop standing there. Get her out.”
The receptionist quickly nodded. “Got it.”
It looked like Chloe had real power here.
The receptionist motioned for Katherine to leave, but she didn’t move. Her tone remained calm. “I’m really the new auctioneer. If you don’t believe me, call Mr. Swanson.”
Chloe crossed her arms and sneered. “You want to see Mr. Swanson? Do you even know wh he is?”
Katherine didn’t.
But since Marsh told her to find Josh, he was probably one of Marsh’s people.
Chloe flicked her hair proudly. “He’s my boyfriend. So you don’t need to look for him. I know for sure he didn’t hire any new auctioneer.”
Katherine pretended to be impressed.
