Chapter 6 He Found That Woman

“I’ll give you everything.”

Ivy stopped crying and held out her little hands.

Lucas was speechless.

Megan was brought upstairs by a hotel attendant that Lucas had arranged. Standing at the door, she still felt a bit nervous.

After all, the person she was about to face was Lucas.

The attendant pressed the doorbell. The door opened, and the attendant gestured politely for Megan to go in.

Megan took a deep breath, silently cheering herself on, and stepped inside.

Fred led her over to Lucas. “Mr. Grant.”

Lucas lifted his gaze, his eyes landing on Megan

Megan anxiously scanned the room for Ivy, afraid the little girl might’ve been hurt by Lucas.

Instead, she saw the tiny girl sitting on the couch happily munching on a pile of lollipops in different flavors.

Megan froze. That little tyrant. Her mom is about to lose her mind, and she’s in here eating candy.

There was no time to dwell on it. Megan hurried over. “Ivy, I’m here.”

Ivy looked up. When she saw Megan, she was about to shout her name when Megan shot her a look.

Ivy blinked. She didn’t understand why her godmother wanted to pretend to be her mom, but she was smart enough to play along. “Mommy, you’re finally here.”

Megan immediately scooped Ivy up into her arms.

Lucas’s gaze followed them. “You’re her mother?

Being stared at by Lucas made Megan’s heart pound wildly.

She forced herself to stay calm. “Yes, I am. I understand what happened. Whatever damage there is, I’ll pay for it in full.”

Lucas narrowed his eyes, his gaze sharp enough to pierce straight through her, as if he could see her heart racing out of control.

“The person who spoke to me on the phone earlier wasn’t you.”

The voice didn’t match.

Megan couldn’t falter. If she did, she’d be exposed immediately.

“Mr. Grant, I was the one who spoke to you earlier. Are you doubting that I’m the child’s mother?”

Lucas didn’t respond. He just stared at her, the pressure heavy and suffocating.

“If you don’t believe me, you can call the same number again.”

Ivy clung to Megan’s neck and asked, “Mommy, can we go now?”

“Wait a little, Ivy. I need to talk things through with this man first.”

The child was calling Megan Mommy. Naturally Lucas had no reason to doubt her words.

Still, Lucas wasn’t that easy to fool. “Then explain why your child wrote ‘deadbeat dad’ on my car. Do we know each other?”

Megan and Lucas had met a few times, but that was six or seven years ago. There was no way he’d recognize her now.

“I’m sorry. My child mistook your car for someone else’s.”

“Mistook it?”

“Yes.”

Megan took a deep breath, forced tears into her eyes, and said, “The child’s father kept a mistress outside. When my mother passed away he was busy celebrating the mistress’s birthday. After I found out, I left with my child. The way you dress looks a lot like her father’s usual style, so she got confused and thought you were that bad guy.”
