Rachel’s thinking was simple: the Grants take the child, Katherine is devastated, and then Rachel becomes the stepmother and torments Katherine’s kid however she pleases.

Ursula poked her forehead. “With a child in the picture, Katherine and Lucas are tied together. They’re not even divorced yet. Add a child on top of that-do you think they’d eve split up?”

“But the Grants would never accept Katherine again.”

“What if the child absolutely refuses to leave Katherine? Have you thought about th happens, they might accept Katherine just to keep the child.”
