Chapter 46 I’m Not Losing
WILLOW
He looked genuinely confused after I said those words.
** Finished
It appeared like the idea of me walking in with divorce papers did not align with the version of me he had carefully constructed in his mind.
He glanced down at the folder again, then slowly picked it up.
For a second. I watched his fingers. The same fingers that used to lace with mine under dinner tables.
Now they held the document that would end us.
He flipped it open. His eyes scanned the first page lazily at first.
Then he froze. He must still be a little in denial.
I could not stop the smirk that tugged at my lips.
It still hurt, of course. It would be a lie to pretend it did not. There was history between us–years of it. There were mornings when I believed he was the center of my universe.
However, pain did not mean surrender. It did not mean I would stay.
I folded my arms loosely as he continued reading.
Page after page, his frown deepened with every paragraph.
When he finished, he closed the folder slowly, letting out a deep breath.
I stepped forward, grabbed the pen from his desk, and placed it firmly in front of him.
“You’ve read it all now, right? Now, sign it.”
Before I could pull my hand back, his fingers wrapped around my wrist tightly.
I gasped.
“What are you doing?” I exclaimed, trying to move away.
Instead of letting go, he stood and pulled me toward him.
Our bodies collided with uncomfortable familiarity.
My breath caught.
His other hand slid down, and suddenly our fingers were intertwined like we had done it a thousand times before.
He looked down at my face.

His gaze darkened.
“Fuck,” he muttered under his breath. “You have always looked angelic.”

“I made a mistake,” he said quickly, his voice sounding rougher than before. “It has been too long since I kissed you.”
“Don’t tell me you do not feel anything for me anymore,” he continued, his grip tightening slightly.
I tried to pull my hand free again, but he held on.
“Look me in the eyes and tell me,” he demanded.
He smirked faintly, as though he expected me to crumble.
For a second, doubt flickered in my chest.
Did I still love him?
A small part of me did. I would not lie to myself. You do not spend years loving someone and wake up one day completely empty. There were memories that still made me aware of his presence.
I lifted my
chin and met his gaze.
“I don’t love you anymore,” I said clearly.
I pulled my hand away this time, and he did not stop me.
The space between us felt colder.
“Now sign the papers.”
His expression showed disbelief. Along with that, there was something akin to heart in his eyes.
His brows drew together, and his lips parted slightly.
I stepped forward again, grabbed the pen, and pressed it into his hand.
“Sign it.”
Just then, to my surprise, he smiled. He took the pen but clenched it in his hands, appearing to not want to
use it.
“No,” he said arrogantly.
The word hung in the air like a challenge.
“Why would I?” he continued, leaning back slightly against his desk. “Divorce should be mutual, right?”
I stared at him.
He was trying to regain control over the situation. He was trying to remind me that this was not as simple as

walking in and demanding an ending.
I sighed, shaking my head slowly.
“You seem not to get the point,” I said evenly.
He tilted his head, amused.

“Divorce is mutual when both parties are at fault,” I continued calmly. “Or when neither is. That is not our
case.”
His smile faltered slightly.
“You committed concubinage,” I said, my tone sharpening. “It’s a felony.”
His jaw tightened.
“Now,” I went on, holding his gaze steadily, “I can take the criminal route. File a case. Drag this through court. Let it become public record.”
His fingers twitched around the pen.
“Or,” I added softly, “I can expose our relationship to the public.”
