Alicia’s POV
The next morning, I woke up to find myself lying beside Aimy on the bed.
Alexander had slept on the couch last night while I slept with aimy on the bed, but when I looked over, the couch was already empty. The blanket had been folded neatly, and there was no sign of him.
I glanced toward the bathroom and knocked lightly on the door.
There was no response.
Alexander had already left.
Just then, my phone buzzed.
I picked it up from the bedside table and saw a familiar number.
I went back to the hotel to take care of a few things. Karen will come later to escort you and Aimy to the airport.
I stared at the message for a few seconds before simply replying,
Okay.
"Mummy..."
I looked up to see Aimy blinking sleepily at me.
A smile appeared on my face as I walked over and sat beside her.
"Hey, baby. How are you feeling? Better?"
She nodded obediently before looking toward the empty couch.
"Where’s Uncle?"
I paused briefly.
"Uncle had something he needed to take care of," I answered gently.
She looked at me with innocent curiosity.
"Will Uncle come back?"
"He will," I replied with a smile before adding softly, "Actually, sweetheart... we might have to travel with Uncle."
Her little brows furrowed in confusion.
"We’re going to another city so the doctors there can help you get even better."
"What about Aunt Anna?" she asked immediately.
I gently stroked her hair.
"Aunt Anna has to stay here and work, but we won’t be away for very long."
She nodded quietly, although I could still see the uncertainty in her eyes.
It was understandable.
Since she was born, she had never left this city.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
The attending doctor walked in carrying Aimy’s chart.
After completing another examination, he smiled reassuringly.
"Her condition is stable enough for the trip."
The words made me breathe a little easier.
He handed me a list of medications and daily necessities Aimy would need during the journey before giving a few more instructions.
Once he finished, he excused himself.
I immediately sent the list to Anna before helping Aimy freshen up and tucking her back into bed.
Not long afterward, Uncle Herbert arrived with Aunt Margaret, Aunt Veronica and Anna.
Each of them carried bags filled with homemade, nutritious food.
"Did Chairman Blackwood leave already?" Anna asked while feeding aimy.
"He left earlier this morning," I answered.
Then I took a slow breath.
"There’s... something I need to tell everyone."
The room gradually fell silent as all eyes turned toward me.
I lowered my gaze briefly before speaking.
"The doctors confirmed that Aimy’s condition can only be stabilized here temporarily. If we want her to make a full recovery, she’ll need treatment at a better hospital."
I looked around the room.
To my surprise, no one seemed shocked.
Instead, they exchanged quiet glances, as though they had already prepared themselves for this possibility.
I continued,
"Alexander has already arranged everything. Aimy will be transferred to Velaridge City this afternoon... and I’ll be g."
Aunt Margaret looked at me carefully.
"And... you’re alright with that?"
I lowered my eyes.
"It’ll only be for a while," I replied softly. "Besides... it’s what’s best for Aimy."
Aunt Veronica reached over and gently squeezed my hand.
"That’s all that matters."
She smiled warmly at Aimy.
"She’s a strong little girl. I’m sure she’ll recover."
After a brief pause, she looked back at me.
"And so will you."
Her words warmed my heart.
Uncle Herbert nodded thoughtfully before speaking.
"Then let’s get you home first so you can pack."
"I’ll go with Alicia," Anna volunteered immediately. "Dad, you and Aunt can head back to the office. Mum can stay here with Aimy until it’s time to leave."
Everyone nodded in agreement.
Just as we had planned, Anna and I returned to the mansion while Uncle Herbert and Aunt Veronica headed back to the office, reminding me to call before we left for the airport.
As soon as we arrived, Anna turned to me.
"You should freshen up first. I’ll start packing Aimy’s things."
