I pulled Aimy into my arms and hugged her tightly.
"Daddy loves you so much, baby."
She stayed quietly in my embrace as I stood up and carried her back to the dining table.
I gently placed her in her chair before taking my seat at the head of the table.
Alicia was already serving Aimy a stack of pancakes.
She served herself as well, but throughout it all she never once looked at me.
I could tell she was deliberately avoiding my gaze.
A faint smile tugged at my lips.
For once...
I didn’t mind.
After breakfast, the pediatrician arrived to give Aimy one final examination.
"Has she been taking her medicine regularly?" he asked, jotting down Alicia’s answers.
"Yes, Doctor."
"And has she been eating and playing normally?"
"She has."
He nodded with satisfaction after finishing the examination.
"She’s doing much better. Continue bringing her in for routine checkups, but as of now..." He smiled reassuringly. "She’s recovered well. Her system is completely clear of the substance."
Alicia quietly let out the breath she had been holding.
So did I.
At least now...
I finally knew our daughter was safe.
After giving us a few additional instructions, the doctor packed up his equipment and left with his assistant.
I walked them to the entrance before heading back toward my study.
As I turned into the hallway, I almost bumped into Alicia.
She was walking absentmindedly, her thoughts clearly elsewhere.
Instinctively, I reached out and held her lightly by the arms before she could walk into me.
She looked up, startled.
"Oh... sorry."
She tried to step away, but I didn’t release her immediately.
Instead, I studied her face.
"You alright?"
She hesitated before giving a small nod.
"I’m fine."
She said the words, but I knew better.
Something was weighing on her.
I slowly released my hold.
She had barely taken a step when I spoke.
"Thank you."
She stopped and looked back, confusion flickering across her face.
"For Aimy."
I smiled faintly.
"I never thought I’d hear her call me ’Daddy.’"
Her eyes lowered.
"I only did what I thought was right," she replied softly. "There’s no need to thank me."
Before I could say anything else, she continued down the hallway.
I watched her retreating figure until she disappeared around the corner.
A strange uneasiness settled in my chest.
Why had she looked so conflicted?
I stood there for another moment before pushing the thought aside and entering my study.
The moment I sat down, I called Doctor Harrison.
"The results should be ready by this evening," he assured me.
"I’ll have someone pick them up."
After ending the call, I leaned back in my chair, my thoughts returning to Karen.
The Newton family’s company had no business dealings with either Livingston Corporation or Blackwood Group.
As far as I knew, our families had never had any conflict.
So why...
Why would Sebastian Newton’s daughter deliberately join my company?
And if Karen truly had something to do with Aimy’s poisoning...
What exactly was her objective?
I rubbed my forehead.
There were still too many unanswered questions.
For now...
All I could do was keep digging.
That evening, Jim arrived at the villa and brought the test results straight to my study.
The moment I opened the report and read through it, my jaw tightened.
It was exactly as I had suspected.
The juice had indeed been tampered with.
