I gathered all the evidence and forwarded it to the police before asking them to continue the investigation alongside Henry.
Since Aimy hadn’t taken the juice yesterday, I knew Karen might try something again. And with her accomplice still inside the villa, neither Alicia nor Aimy was truly safe.
The best course of action was to move quickly.
If Karen was arrested before she found another pawn, we’d cut off her opportunity to act again. At the same time, we couldn’t rush the investigation. We still needed to uncover her true motive and determine whether she was working alone. Otherwise, we might never get to the root of everything.
That night, we had dinner together again.
I was slowly getting used to the routine.
Yet every single time Aimy called me "Daddy," it still felt like a dream.
And every time I heard it, I found myself loving both of them even more.
After dinner, I took Aimy upstairs and tucked her into bed while Alicia returned to her room to freshen up.
That had gradually become our routine as well.
I stayed with Aimy until she fell asleep, while Alicia waited in her room and never came back until she was certain I had already left.
Tonight, however, Aimy wasn’t ready to sleep.
She insisted on hearing one story after another.
By the time she finally drifted off, I gently pulled the duvet over her, kissed her forehead, and quietly made my way toward the door.
The moment I stepped into the hallway, I saw Alicia walking toward the room.
For a second...
I simply stood there.
She was wearing a simple nightdress that fell just above her knees.
There was nothing flashy about it.
Nothing particularly revealing.
Yet the graceful curve of her long legs made my heartbeat quicken. The smooth, delicate skin that caught the soft hallway light had always affected me in ways I couldn’t explain.
For a long moment, neither of us moved.
We simply stared at one another.
Then memories flooded my mind without warning.
The nights we had spent tangled beneath the same sheets.
The countless times I had struggled to keep myself from losing control whenever we made love.
Then...
New York.
The night Sophia drugged me.
The night Alicia chose to stay with me.
Those days in New York had been the last time we were truly together before two long years separated us.
Alicia’s cheeks slowly flushed beneath my gaze.
I swallowed hard before forcing myself to look away.
Without another word, I walked past her and headed straight for my room, afraid that if I stayed another second, I would lose the little composure I had left.
Yes...
Alicia had always had that effect on me.
She made me feel as though I was slowly losing every bit of the restraint I had spent years building.
The moment I entered my room, I walked straight into the bathroom.
I turned on the tap and splashed cold water across my face before gripping the sink and staring at myself in the mirror.
What was happening to me?
During the two years Alicia had been gone, I had never once looked at another woman with desire, no matter how revealing her clothes were.
Yet now...
A simple, modest nightdress on Alicia was enough to completely unsettle me.
I stepped beneath the cold shower, letting the icy water pour over me.
But no matter how long I stood there...
I couldn’t erase her image from my mind.
That night, I barely slept.
No matter how many cold showers I took, sleep refused to come.
I spent the entire night turning restlessly in bed, haunted by thoughts of the woman I still couldn’t stop loving.
Alicia’s POV
"So... you’ll have to stay there for a few more days?" Anna asked over the phone.
"Yes. He said it would be better—and safer—for Aimy and me."
"But did he tell you what’s really happening? Dad won’t tell us anything."
My brows furrowed.
"Even Uncle is keeping it from you? Alexander won’t tell me anything either. I didn’t even get to see the hospital test results."
"And you didn’t ask him about it?"
I shook my head, though she couldn’t see me.
"I didn’t... I just thought maybe it wasn’t anything serious. But now... I feel like there’s something more going on."
"We’ll find out eventually."
"I hope so," I replied.
A brief silence followed before Anna’s voice turned teasing.
"I’m actually curious how you let him take control of the situation."
