My CEO HUSBAND sign the divorce novel Chapter 307

Chapter 307: Arrested

When we finished breakfast, I noticed that only one staff member came to clear the table. Usually, there were two others who assisted Maria in the kitchen.

"Where’s the other lady?" I asked, realizing I still couldn’t remember most of their names.

The maid looked up with a faint smile.

"She didn’t come in today, ma’am."

"She doesn’t live here?" I asked, remembering that most of the staff stayed in the quarters within the villa.

"She does, ma’am. But she left last night, saying she had something to take care of and would be back today."

"I see."

I nodded before pushing my chair back.

"Then I’ll help you clear the table."

She looked up almost immediately, panic flashing across her face.

"No, ma’am, please don’t. The others can help me."

But I had already begun gathering the dishes.

"Don’t worry," I said with a smile. "I’m not doing anything at the moment anyway."

Even as we walked toward the kitchen, she tried several more times to stop me.

I simply smiled and ignored her.

She was probably worried Maria would scold her.

But even back then, when Maria handled everything herself, I’d often help her cook or wash the dishes.

I had done the same in Rosewood Town.

Helping had simply become a habit.

The moment Maria saw me enter the kitchen carrying dishes, she smiled knowingly.

"You’ll always be the same," she said, shaking her head.

My smile widened.

Alexander’s POV

By the time I arrived at the company, Karen was already waiting beside the elevator, just as she did every morning.

But today...

Something about her felt different.

It was almost as though she knew I was investigating her.

I had to restrain myself from throwing her out of the company right then and there.

Doing so would only complicate the investigation.

Agnes had already been arrested.

The staff member from my villa had also been taken in yesterday, questioned, and detained after the evidence confirmed her involvement.

Everything was slowly falling into place.

I had just finished my second meeting of the day and was reviewing documents in my office when Tristin knocked before walking in.

As always, he wore his usual unreadable expression.

I looked up from the file in my hand.

"Tristin. Do you need something?"

He studied me for a moment before quietly taking a seat.

"Are you alright?"

For the first time that morning, concern showed in both his voice and his expression.

"I’m fine."

"Why?"

He sighed.

"Have you looked at yourself this morning?"

"I’m fine," I repeated.

"Just stressed."

"About Alicia?"

I already knew he was going to bring that up.

Ever since returning from Rosewood Town, I hadn’t had the chance to tell him everything that had happened with Alicia and Aimy.

Instead of answering, I set the file aside and rubbed both hands over my face.

Tristin let out a quiet breath.

"You really don’t look good."

"It’s alright if you don’t want to talk about it."

He paused.

"Just... don’t destroy yourself again."

I remained silent.

What was I supposed to tell him?

That my wife and daughter were finally under the same roof as me...

Yet my wife still felt farther away than ever?

Seeing that I wasn’t going to answer, he changed the subject.

"How’s the investigation?"

"It’s progressing."

"Found anything?"

"A few things."

"But we’re still digging."

"I’ll explain everything once we’re certain."

He nodded.

"If you need any help... don’t hesitate."

Just then, a knock sounded.

One of my secretaries stepped inside.

"Chairman Blackwood, the police are here to see you."

I glanced toward Tristin.

"Let them in."

He immediately stood.

"I should leave—"

"No."

He looked at me.

"Stay."

Over the past two years, Tristin had become someone I trusted far more than I’d ever expected.
