My CEO HUSBAND sign the divorce novel Chapter 308

Chapter 308: Set up

The rest of the day passed in a blur.

By evening, Tristin returned with the Head of the Human Resources Department.

"You wanted to see me, Chairman Blackwood?" the man asked after taking his seat.

"Yes."

I glanced at Tristin, who silently handed him a file.

Without saying a word, the HR Head opened it and began flipping through the pages. As he read, his brows gradually furrowed.

After a moment, he looked up.

"This is your assistant’s personnel file, sir."

I nodded.

"How exactly was she appointed to this position?" I asked calmly.

He hesitated before replying.

"Sir... we followed the normal recruitment process, and she passed every stage."

Without responding, I slid another file across the desk toward him.

His eyes widened the moment he recognized what it was.

It was the list of the final shortlisted candidates.

Karen’s name wasn’t on it.

I folded my hands.

"Then why isn’t she among these candidates?"

"Ah... Sir... I..."

Cold sweat immediately formed on his forehead despite the cool air circulating through the office.

"Don’t even try to lie again," Tristin said, his patience clearly running out.

The HR Head swallowed nervously before lowering his head.

"I’m very sorry, Chairman Blackwood."

"But... I had no choice."

I raised an eyebrow.

"So... you were forced?"

My voice remained calm.

He hesitated again.

I leaned back slightly.

"You need to decide."

"Who would you rather offend?"

"Me..."

"Or the person who forced you to do it?"

Silence filled the office.

Neither Tristin nor I spoke another word.

We simply waited.

Several moments later, he finally lifted his head.

His eyes were red.

"I’m going to tell you everything, sir."

"But you need to know... I truly believed I was doing the right thing."

My brows knitted together.

What did that even mean?

He took a shaky breath.

"It was Miss Angela Blackwood."

The office fell into complete silence.

For several long seconds...

No one spoke.

My eyes widened slightly.

"What?"

"My aunt has never interfered with company affairs."

"So why would she suddenly ask you to do something like this?"

His gaze dropped once again.

"She contacted me during the final stage of the recruitment process."

"When I refused..."

"She threatened to have me dismissed for disobeying a shareholder."

He swallowed.

"She said... she was only doing what was best for the Chairman."

My jaw tightened.

My fists slowly clenched beneath the desk.

Why would my aunt do something like this?

I had always known she disliked Alicia.

She had despised Alicia’s father long before his death.

And after his passing...

That resentment had shifted to Alicia.

But this...

This crossed every line.

If what he was saying was true...

Then did my aunt already know about Alicia and Aimy?

Could she have had something to do with poisoning my daughter?

"Leave."

My voice was ice cold.

The HR Head immediately stood and hurried out of the office.
