Seeing them together stirred something deep inside me.
If I left with Aimy now...
What would I tell her?
Everything I was doing was for her own good.
But would she understand that?
She had only just found her father...
And now this.
"Let’s talk in my room," Alexander said quietly.
Without answering, I turned and walked out.
Instead of following him to the master bedroom, I entered my guest room.
I stopped in the middle of the room and turned to face him.
"What do you want to say?" I asked coldly.
Alexander didn’t answer immediately.
He simply stood there, studying me for a long moment before finally walking closer.
"Aunt Angela helped Karen get into the company because she wanted to set us up."
He paused.
"But no matter how stubborn Aunt Angela is... you know she would never hurt a child."
"Really?" I let out a bitter laugh.
"I don’t think so."
"She already told me herself that she never wanted me to have your child."
He fell silent, clearly taken aback.
"So just admit it."
"You’re taking her side."
"In your eyes..."
"I’ll always be the one who’s wrong."
"The one who should keep sacrificing."
"And now..."
"My daughter."
I shook my head.
"Don’t say that, Alicia."
"Listen."
"I only found out about Karen not long ago."
"And then you decided to hide it from me," I cut in.
"I’m sorry."
"I only wanted to find the truth before telling you."
I shook my head again.
"That’s not an excuse, Alexander."
"This is my daughter we’re talking about."
"I’ve been the one raising her alone for the past two years."
The words escaped before I could stop them.
I watched the hurt flash across Alexander’s face.
When he finally spoke, his voice was low and restrained.
"You chose that."
"What?"
"You chose to leave."
"You refused to hear me out."
"You refused to believe me."
"Do you even know what I went through?"
"And now..."
"You’re trying to make the same decision again."
"It was never a mistake!" I almost shouted.
"If you think leaving you was a mistake..."
"Then you’re wrong."
"How was I supposed to stay in such a toxic place?"
"I almost lost my baby several times."
"Where were you?"
"You weren’t even a good father before she was born."
"What was I supposed to expect after she came into the world?"
"You hid the pregnancy from me, Alicia."
"Why wouldn’t I?"
I shot back.
"When Lilian came back, all you could see was her."
"If I’d told you..."
"Would you really have let me keep the baby?"
"And even if you had..."
"Do you honestly think your first love would’ve accepted it?"
His jaw tightened.
"Your aunt looked me in the eye and told me she’d rather accept your criminal first love than me..."
"...or my child."
"And after everything I’d already endured..."
"You expected me to stay?"
By now, tears were pouring freely down my face.
Alexander’s expression softened.
He slowly reached toward me.
I instinctively stepped back.
"Alicia..."
"Don’t touch me."
"I’m taking my daughter away from here."
"Because your world might destroy both of us..."
"...just like it destroyed me."
"I loved you so much that I ignored every insult..."
"Every humiliation..."
"Every day you acted as though I didn’t exist."
"Every single time..."
"You chose someone else over me."
"But not anymore."
The strength suddenly left my legs.
I collapsed onto the floor.
Alexander froze.
My voice trembled as I whispered,
"What was the point of loving you for all those years..."
"...if all you ever did was betray me..."
"...and maybe never return those feelings?"
Almost immediately, Alexander dropped to his knees before me.
"No."
"Don’t say that."
"I’m sorry."
